DTR - Breckenridge, CO
By Team Mogul
Chevy Truck U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix
Nearly eight inches of fresh powder made for exciting contests this weekend in
Breckrenridge, Colorado. Men and women competed in front of hundreds of
spectators in the superpipe event for $10,000 cash.
Twelve-year-old Luke Mitrani made it into the men's top ten by busting large
airs, clean 5's and a 720. Watch out for this kid in the future, he is riding
with the strength and power of an adult at only age 12, and scaring some veteran
pros. Overall, the riding was impressive and younger guys like Elijah Teter and
Steve Fisher are proving they are the new force to be reckoned with in the pipe.
Rob Kingwell kept his top three streak going for the season and showed everyone
that he isn't just making powder turns and growing hair up in Jackson Hole all
season. With all said and done, hometown favorite Chad Otterstrom locked in gold
by stomping numerous spins including back-to-back 9s, and starting out with large
Mctwist in his final run.
For the ladies, the young Hannah Teter dominated by launching possibly the
largest air by a woman in the superpipe, and once again stomping a frontside
nine, which secured her second Grand Prix gold this season. Gretchen Bleiler was
dropping in hot as always with smooth back-to-back 5s and a crippler to lock in
2nd place.

Yahoo! Big Air and Style
Snow continued to dump in full force as lights were set up for the Yahoo! Big Air
and Style. Competitors endured poor visibility and slow snow while daringly
warming up on the 50-foot-long double jump. Hoots and hollers were heard from the
diehard spectators who saw competitors go for broke over the gap, which made for
nearly a seventy-foot jump. Hannah Teter and Jamie McLeod pulled 180, and cab 5
variations that would put almost anyone to shame, but it was Hana Beaman who
proved fearless by pulling clean corked 540s over the gap.
Chad Otterstrom must not have been content with a first place finish in the Grand
Prix Pipe because he continued his rampage by busting bs 7s and cab 5 underflips
over the gap. In the end, 9s, corked cab 5s, 720s and double back flips made for
an entertaining final as five male riders tried to get in as many hits as
possible in the 20-minute jam format to impress the judges for first place. With
everything said and done, it was Tom Flocco who walked away $5,000 richer and
with the respect of fellow riders and mesmerized fans.
These last couple days at Breck have been a lot of fun with good riding
conditions and numerous restaurants and bars to check out. This week we have
nominated ourselves as Team Mogul after deciding to not take a trail map and by
finding every mogul this side of the Rocky Mountains, but it just makes for
better riding and a good laugh. As host of SNOWBOARDER Magazine's Superpark, the
Vans Triple Crown, and Chevy U.S. Grand Prix, Breckenridge is a premier resort
that is definitely worth your while to check out.
