Best painting is we’re broke. Im Canadian so seeing the u.s of a with that written on it makes me happy. oh and also the play on words, “we’re ok” are so clever, just what Americans do.

  • Daniel

My favourite painting is definitely “Obsolete Dreams” (Painting 11/12 on the site).

Why is this my favourite painting from Corey Smith? It exploits the obsessive corrupt culture of North America. It shows that Women in our culture are truly obsessed with weight loss and beauty. Women are selfish and only look out for themselves. This is apparent in out culture whilst families/children/citizens in impoverished Africa (or other poor countries) are starving to death. We are so selfish that we can’t even help these poor people. We only look out for ourselves spending billions on waging war for oil. We have a plentiful amount of food and resources, however these people are dying and we aren’t helping them.

I would love to have this painting on a board graphic. Look at the impact it made on me.

  • Dirk

I’m going to have to say that ‘Obsolete Dreams’ is my favorite. I really dig throwback pop art, and pop art (almost) always reminds me a bit of this classic Thrasher boyfriend shirt…. https://shop.thrashermagazine.com/detail.php?id=16

  • http://gail.is Ronalds

Although I liked all of the paintings, I think “Obsolete dreams” is my favorite, because of the message, which it encompasses.

  • http://slingluffgallery.com The Slingluff Gallery

I would have to say that I enjoy all of them, however if one must be picked I’d have to go with ‘Obsolete Dreams’. I like the family portrait feeling that it gives to the viewer. It is somewhat hard to view on a site, but it seems that there is some texture in Corey’s work which is always good. I’d love to see this one along with more of his work in person.

  • Tristyn Kemp

I like the “Welcome to Hell” piece as it shows the great California (where I’m from) and it is also has the title of one of my favorite songs (Welcome to Hell-Sum 41).

  • Austyn

My favourite is “There’s strong and Then There’s army strong” because like all of his paintings, it shows a lot of truth in what it is saying. No one gives enough credit to the soldiers for doing what they do and none of us have the balls to do it ourselves. Instead we have wanna be tough guys walking around the streets thinking they own the place. I’d love to see anyone who thinks they’re strong to step into the shoes of a soldier and then we’ll decide who the real pussy is.

  • christian cauchi-franco

we’re brOKe is my favorite because we act like were OK but we are really broke as a motha fucka!

  • whitney

my favorite is “don’t stop believing” beacuse thats me…..before i started snowboarding.

  • Balint

I don’t really like his pictures. Why? Because I miss the positive thoughts or beauty.

  • Paul Lee

‘Homogenize the Human Experience With Beta Blockers’ is my favorite because it really makes you think deeply. A lot of people have been in the same situation as the girl depicted in the painting: in pain, vulnerable, and perhaps wanting to kill herself. The words “the dope feels good.” enhances this message. She numbs the pain, but when the dope wears off, that pain comes back stronger than before. It hurts.

  • andres benavides

“pink stealth fighters coming to save the world” i loved this painting because he took a sad topic, and made it into a happy picture, while still saying the truth, i respect that, sick painting.

  • nubro

‘too much remore, not enough control’ first off, the piece is visually interesting, it grabs your attention. even without the title you immediately think of america’s addiction to television, the new God. but there are so many other discussions this piece brings up. i think the majority of americans feel like we are simply watching the actions of our government from a distance and have little control over the direction our country is going. i think that sadly peoples’ political views come from which pundit they watch on tv and the parrticular views that television personality pushes. is that the extent of american’s involvement/control of government, watching fox news vs msn vs the daily show? that’s why this painting is my favorite; it makes you think.

  • Nathanial Brown

My favorite is Born to Win, I may not be good at everything but what I am good at I win at.

  • Jordan Johannsen

My favorite was the “welcome to hell” piece. “KEEP GOD OUT OF CALIFORNIA” –the great Chris Pontius. That’s why it is my favorite.

  • Spence

We’re brOKe series are probably my favorite. Simple and effective.
    Thanks

  • Liam

I’m going to have to say ‘Obsolete Dreams’ as well. Most of Corey’s paintings are very politically inspired I feel, but this painting, to me, shows the best contrast of the American Dream/Reality with Actuality. So called first world countries, such as the U.S., are inundated with benign belief systems sponsored by corporations that want you to buy, buy, buy, but meanwhile there are nations of starving and dying women, men and children. To me the message of this painting is our beliefs and dreams aren’t only obsolete, they are inherently wrong. It’s time to think globally, act locally.

  • Asbjørn Rogne Knudsen

I really like the painting We’re BrOKe’. The colours are both warm and cold which I find as an interesting combination just for a board graphic. The title makes me think about how broke we are after spending all our money on christmas gifts for our family and friends. Considering that it makes me think about my old shitty Flow board which i’m going to ride this winter in Val Thorens with all my danish friends.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

    Asbjørn- Denmark

  • Donovan

i like two of them…i like Lucifer rising and questions of the universe because how ironic is it that they both have the same color patterns and they r asking questions about god and all i can think is that it all relates back to the Lucifer……ultimately he has control of the rising universe.

  • Zach

I like the painting “Questions of the Universe”. I’m going through some hard times and whenever humans go through trials it seems like these questions are the ones that haunt us. In a strange way the painting brought inspiration to me.

  • http://www.coreysmithtimetravel.com/2009.html Logan

‘Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control’ is my favorite. It’s true we need to spend less time watching T.V. and being controlled. People need to get outside and get in shape, make a difference, or just snowboard. Get out and Shred. That’s what I would do if i got a new Stairmaster by Capita. Boom America

  • Dominic Muzzin

I have to say obsolete dreams is my personal favorite. I can get off to its exquisite detailing whether I have two hours alone to myself or when Mexican drug lords are forcing me to impregnate a fox to create the ultimate half fox half humans super smuggler.

  • Donnie D

“Too much remote, not enough control.” It’s an awesome concept to live by in my book. I knew a guy who doesn’t watch movies because he would rather be out living a life worth making a movie of then living though someone others. That and its provocative, IT GETS THE PEOPLE GOING.

  • matthew

my favorite painting is “key to the city” because i own it. i came to your house in portland to buy it, you let me borrow a dvd, and i never was able to run into you at meadows to return it. i also have a “liar’s laughter” print. it’s a great reminder that the majority of people on this planet are here to spew bullshit to get you to blindly follow a path that in the end, only benefits their own cause.

  • Pedro

“There’s Strong and Then There’s Army Strong” is my favorite one and it’s because of how it takes a stab at one of the classic pieces of US army propaganda, making people feel belittled in order to get them to join the armed forces and Corey Smith basically writes what the government was thinking when they thought of that slogan: “Don’t be a pussy!”

    Dope!

  • Matt Gregory

    Obsolete Dreams 11
How sick people here eat them selves to such a point,
Or whats worse a government that tries to restrict there
out of control eating habits for those who cant do it them selves.
    LMAO Craziness
How will you survive the GREAT OBESITY EPIDEMIC ?

  • MRKD

my favorite was the one with the titties

  • I’m happy

‘Obsolete Dreams’ with the boobies and the dude on the phone smokin a bogie is easily the most American painting in his collection.

Babes, Boobs, Business, Cigarettes and California.

  • Nate B

My favorite painting is easily ‘Obsolete Dreams’ Southern California. Unfortunately I still live with my parents but if I didn’t that would be my dream painting to have in my house or apartment. I mean who doesn’t like a ‘risque’ painting. A strong correlation I noticed in his paintings is how he picks at how a MAN in our society should be or has become. The other painting in ‘Obsolete Dreams’ “There’s strong and then theres Army strong” seems to be saying that our society has gone in a direction that if your not ‘strong’ your not a real man. In the Southern California one it takes a similar approach about how our society marks a real MAN when it says “Money Makes The Man.” Our society has marked a MAN as being nothing without Strength, Money, and Power.
One of the major reasons this one is my favorite is how it involves Southern California. I am not from California but being after visiting numerous times it is very clear that Southern California is very Fake. It is an awesome place and is an epicenter of skateboarding/snowboarding which are some of the only Real things California has going for it (and Bradshaws style). Almost everything else in SouthernCalifornia is all fake. It’s glitz/glam (and fake boobs) and image is everything. Your nothing unless you have money. That is just my opinion and what I think of when I look at the painting. It really is AWESOME! Corey Smith is definitely a Defender of Awesome.

  • luke

i like the obsolete dreams saying rip off cuz its just funny.

  • Mike

The SR-71 painting really appeals to me, but I also thing the Rip off painting reminds me of a classic comic pane.

  • Evan

My favorite was with out a doubt “start your own religion”
only because of how metal it was

also satan is waiting is pretty fucking badass

  • Andrew

“Questions of the Universe – Does God Hear My Prayers?”

First off i’d like to say, yes, GOD HEARS YOUR PRAYERS EVERYDAY,
the only reason everyday seems bleak and gray,
is because everybody forgot to pray.
We’ve left God’s side and taken the our brethren to the grave,
We’ve chased selfish intentions for pleasure and pain,
They say you grow UP from a child to a man,
But from day one its a DOWNhill battle to maintain
that perfect innocence we were born with,
Lets learn a lesson from the past,
lets put love above social class,
lets look to God for solace and hope,
lets live everyday to give to those who don’t have,
and everything else will find its perfect place,
I wasn’t informed when the Human Race started,
I say we just walk it together instead of searching for the finish line alone.

  • Justin R

At first “To much remote, Not enough control” stuck. The more I looked “Lucifer Rising” it is my Favorite. For me being a artist, you get so focused on more detailed and complex art work. But I find that my most simple paintings or drawings express my feelings and love the most. It goes hand in hand with life we focus so much on college, work, making money but what makes us happiest. I don’t think of “Lucifer” when I see this, the bright colors that stand out with the black background and make me think about the things in like that really count in life. Family, Friends, Music, my dog Ridley,Mug of beer!!! Life is so much more fun when it is simple.

  • TIMMY!!

too much remote, not enough control. cuz im proud to be an american and if u dont like america you can git out! no seriously go live in a 3rd world country you pussy. be grateful.

  • zack

“Obsolete dreams” was my favorite painting because I really hate the lap band. Save darfur

  • britton
  • Pete

I have two. Both are the “Obsolete Dreams” one with the Olsen twins, and the one with the women that says how much weight they lost and the starving kids beneath them. I like the Olsen twin one just because it’s bad ass, I don’t really know it just stuck out to me, maby cause i had a crush on them when i was 7. The other one I like more just for the message. I hate all those celebrity gossip magazines talking about “celebrities lives you see in the check out line at grocery stores. Read about actual important things, or at least don’t waist your time reading about that bull shit. Go ride a snowboard, I don’t know, fuck it.

  • Brice

obsolete dreams because it is simple yet magnificent

  • J Money

The ‘We’re BrOKe’ Series – Really points out the financial situation we are in the United States but gives a fuzzy feeling knowing we’re OK.

  • Matt Thomas

Lovin’ the We’re Broke series. Its modern looks reall sick. AND its 100% true.

  • dominic komloske

    questions of the universe.
as a snowboarder who is christian im always wonderug if snowboarding is what God put me on this planet for. It is the one thing that can no matter what can make me smile.

  • Ben

I like the “Obsolete Dreams”. This painting is my favorite because it shows what America is really focused on. It shows that even though there are thousands of starving children out there, we are more worried about how much weight one person has lost. This painting really shows how America needs to improve

  • Kevin Arnold

The best painting to me was “We’re Broke” and here’s why… You may or may not be aware that our country isn’t doing too well. Most people just shrug it off and say we’ll bounce back.. But unless we take action and do something about it, it’s going to get worse and worse.. And that’s what this painting seems to mean to me.. The only way to inform some people about our plummeting economy is to make it so obvious that they couldn’t miss it! WE’RE IN TROUBLE PEOPLE!!! BUY AMERICAN!!!

  • Anthony

I really like “Satan is Waiting” with the black background(http://www.coreysmithtimetravel.com/2009.html). To me it me means that you might as well be bad and enjoy every thing and chance you get in life. So what if you lied about where you were to everyone that day, you know that the fresh powder was worth lying to your job. haha

  • Taylor Mann

We’re broke. its just so true

  • josh l

MY favorite was the “Pink Stealth fighters coming to save the world” because it had so many meanings. At first i though about the military going to kill people who were already tired of life which also made me think about how the humans and our machines are destroying the world . Then i though about the irony from it saying smile the end is near. Finally i thought about how the fighters could represent the cure to cancer.

  • Ned Holden

my favorite painting on his website would be ‘There’s Strong and Then There’s Army Strong’ i just came in from riding my down rail in my yard, after getting worked and smashing my jaw off the rail im sitting here sobbing in pain and on that paint it says clearly “dont be a pussy!”
haha thanks guys, your site keeps me from going insane when theres no snow

  • Austin McKenna

I like the “Obsolete Dreams”, because it’s basically like the same graphic as some of the last year model boards…..and it just represents something different then everyone else, that why capita is so creative because they have something that no one else has, Creativity.

  • http://followfarrow.com followfarrow

‘Too much remote, not enough control.’
This is a perfect representation of society.
Specifically Western society. They count on you to tune out of life and into mass media.
Control is in the hands of the people, and change is in the mind of the believer.
But when the hands of the people are occupied by a remote, and their minds occupied by the media….. Control is shifted to the 1%.
    Stop, watching, television.

ps: My snowboard has a scale model of the grand canyon located on the nose, I could use this deck. Rock on!

  • Vincent

I would have to say the “We’re brOKe” Series just due to the simple irony of it. Its so true that the US is going under huge economical issues even though there are many of us that have no problem putting food on the table. So in general, we’re doing okay. It’s the fact that a lot of people can’t afford the things everyone else has, like a brand new snowboard or a decent car, in order to be happy which makes many of us think that we are broke.

  • Andrew

My favorite piece is from the 2009-2011 section and it’s called “Welcome to Hell.” It is the shape of California with an upside down cross in it. Being from the state of Oregon, I consider myself to be from the Northwest, and I really cannot stand most Californians. To me, California is hell. Throughout my life, I have seen people who moved from the California to Oregon, and all they do is complain about being cold and how much they miss California, and I think to myself, “Please just go back there then…”
Another point I want to make is that this piece really resembles California in comparison to it’s superior neighbor Oregon. Oregon is definitely the most beautiful state I have ever explored, and I am lucky to be from there, but how can something so terrible be so close? California is hell. California does have its nice areas, but it also has its bad parts. Smog, traffic, violence and overpopulation are just some examples of how I think of it.
So, i guess the main reason this piece stands out to me is that it helps me assemble my disgust to my state’s southern neighbor, also, it just looks really cool and simple, something I would love to have on my wall.

  • Sean

My personal favorite would have to be “We’re BrOKe”. There are a lot of people in the United States currently who are not in the best financial circumstances. Our economy has not been doing to well lately and lets not even get into what’s happening in politics. It seems as thought the United States is on an endless downward spiral. There is although a light at the end of the tunnel. If one were to look at the current economic trends and employment rates, The United States is actually on its way to recovery. We are beginning the slow steps to a better future and I felt that this was really expressed in the painting by putting the emphasis on the “OK” in the word broke. This painting really shows what America is going through right now, we may not have all of the things we so desperately want but if we look at the future, it’s all going to be OK.

  • Jason Mayo

My favorite is “There’s Strong and Then There’s Army Strong”
I like the blunt message ” Don’t be a Pussy! ” I think that says it all.

  • Logan

My favorite had to be the ‘There’s Strong and Then There’s Army Strong’ and how it says Dont be a pussy! makes me think…. I am what i eat! just kidding im just a local snowboard kid that plays Cod… Love Capita!!! and there graphics!!

  • http://cadaverkrew.blogspot.com Brandon Smith

the ‘we’re brOKe’ series is too damn funny. Americans are definitely tryin to keep chugging along without realizing how far down the drain we’ve spun and without a real plan to dig ourselves out of the hole we’ve made. This would be a tight board graphic.

  • Kwon

I’m broke, I’m sure ur broke . We’re broke.. Holy tits there was alot of people that entered… Just give me the board already… And a pack of smokes

  • Tyler Sedlacek

My favorite painting is the “Air Superiority” painting. So cool, has an almost photographic look. The stealth fighter is so cool with it’s silhouette against the sky. Even though it is modern it has this almost 50′s military propaganda look to it as if it is shoving our air superiority in the faces of the world, flexing our muscles, telling the world not to flinch because we could end it all type of thing. Just reminds me of 50′s nationalist propaganda photography and is really interesting. Great art work all around!

  • http://norts.com zeachking

i like the one with the boobs(.)(.) from 2006-2008 album i cant find the name of the picture but its the one with the boobs(.)(.). The reson its the best is because it has a nice set of boobs(.)(.) who doesent like that. (.)(.)boooobs.

  • Matt Brown

2009-2011 section: We brOKe. Sickest paintings ever! Get at it Capita! whooooo

  • Emmitt

the best is “too much remote, not enough control” because we need to get a grip on what on what is here in America and worry less about “them”

  • Daniel Masnada

Obsolete dreams with the weight losing women and the kids that are starving. I like the message behind it. It shows what this country cares about and what we should care about. we look at ourselves with so much criticism about the way we look and spend our lives and money trying to be accepted and beautiful whlie there are people in other countries dying because they have no food. if we all just gave up buying one beauty product a week and donated the money we saved to the starving children, we could save lives. now isn’t that worth one tube of mascara?

  • Jon

My favorite was Pink Steath Fighters Comming to Save the World.

I think it would look super cool on a board, and would make people laugh out loud in line,
The big tough plane all dressed in pink, death from above cant be all that bad if your fashionable…. right?

glad i took the time to check tose paintings out

  • Tim

Best Painting is the ‘Questions of the Universe’ “What will Heaven be Like”. I love it so much that if Capita and Corey Smith teamed up and put that on a board I would buy three! After I bought three I would buy three more one for each of my brothers. We would all live happily ever after. The End.
If i win the board give away that would also be sick, and I would still have the dopest board ever.

  • Lance Briley

Pink Sunsets and Black and White Beauties, if you look carefully in the pink background there is an Rx, showing how the future has changed from black and white to color photography and TV along with women. Today women take medicine to lose weight and stay thin, shown by the color and the Rx, while back when photography was black and white, women did not take pills and use extreme measures to try to look beautiful, which in turn makes them that much more beautiful. I think it shows how women in the past ate correctly and exercised compared to today where women think that the only way to stay thin and beautiful are to use other means like pills. It really contrasts the different ways of how women stay healthy and beautiful.

i think the one on 2006-2008 where it says “money makes the man” is my favorite because it reminds me of the classic stairmaster board that had get rich die tryin on it and the guy, which looks the same, and i always wanted that board but i never had the money to get it. such a sick board, and painting. We Devour Everything.

  • Michael F

My favorite was “Start Your Own Religion” because I personally like art that challenges or pushes the boundaries of what can be depicted or talked about in terms of things such as religion, and that is exactly what that painting does for me.

  • we$ton brown

My favorites gotta be the ‘We’re BrOKe’ series. I know a lot of us in the US are strugglin right now financially.. at least a lot of my friends and myself are, but we’re getting by and for now its still all good.. at least when were hittin the slopes! haha so help a brotha out with this sick new board! merry christmas!

“Obsolete Dream” is mad dope. Corey Smith is a gifted and talented artist. I understand why the CAPiTA boards has the best artwork in the industry, with people like Corey being able to portray their creativity. Everyone over at CAPiTA keep up the great work! Your a real snowboard company in a industry thats losing focus about what shredding is all about. : )

  • Kostas

All of hem! Becouse I love Corey Smiths style.

  • Mikaila Bird

I like the Obsolete Dream 11/12 with the women advertising their weight loss with the African children at the bottom. I think that this is a very accurate depiction of Americans and how our lifestyle is so different than that of the rest of the world. This painting provides a great visual of how imbalanced the world is and how obsessed Americans are with their image and idea of perfection when people (helpless) are struggling to survive. This painting is meaningful and encloses a powerful message.

  • Prescott

Obsolete Dreams is my favorite painting because the painting represents many themes. It represents how man has already been on the moon and how that great triumph is now dead because we are not sending any more men to the moon. Also i think its cool that the skeletons are the insides and the suit represents his outer shell or skin, meaning although we are human, we can allocate enough resources to accomplish anything. With human hands we can build tools that let us very un-human things… (snowboards let us fly ;)

  • chuck darley

Corey Smith is a fuckin psycho. Also, im Pretty sure that’s Dan Broadwell pumpin dumbbells on the stairmasters topsheet.

  • Katie Wurdack

The coolest painting to me was ‘Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control’ created with found remote controls on a wood panel. There is so much symbolism in this piece that really shows what America has become, nearly every home has a television in it and people spend a great deal of their waking hours behind the tv in the hopes of being entertained, and in some cases end up being brainwashed by too much of it. The title is perfect because so often we think we’re in control but the media determines what is shown to us; censorship occurs. We believe we have the power because we can change the channel, but we don’t decide what is available in the first place. Tonight I played a live video game and you can see who else is playing from around the world. America lit up the night sky with users while the UK followed behind and every other area only had small pieces lit up with users. Too many people in the US spend too much time on their tv, be it through watching shows or playing games, but it’s impacting our perspectives on the world, it’s up to you to decide good or bad.

“Too much remote, not enough control” is a great piece. It just made me stop and really look at it. It’s a symbol of so much, greatness and the journey. Very cool man, keep up the great work.

  • velina

My favorite is the “Pink Stealth fighters coming to save the world” because it is really the end and if it is the end there is nothing you can do but smile!!! And you wait and smile and smile and wait.

  • jeena

There is no favourite of mine out of Corey’s the gallery. He is a fine painter. Talented, collected, creative, and original, his paintings show ingenuity of his own thoughts and own imagination. It’s when an artist can take a vision, put it on a canvas, and show the world that this is what’s going on; this is what he sees. My perspective of these paintings is that Corey is a person who see’s reality, and see’s the causes of the world through a different pair of eyes. He shows his true understanding of what happens, and expresses it in his own manner. These inventful ways of expression are ground-breaking, and no painting for me went unnoticed.

  • Joe McCausland

    Favorite painting: Obsolete Dreams
    Reason: Boobs

  • Sherlock

Obsolete Dreams with starving children and ‘starving’ women. Simple, but meaningful… Trying to look our best, we tend to be blind to others. Eating nothing just to fit in a new dress? Or eating anything just to survive? I wish these dreams were obsolete…

  • BAiley

My favorite painting is ”Too much remote, not enough control” because it shows a bunch of colored TV remotes and it has a good meaning.

  • http://www.coreysmithtimetravel.com/ Luke Potter

My favorite painting is “Question of the Universe”, mainly because i ask myself all the time why we are put on on Earth. I believe that everyone has a purpose of being here, and that my purpose is to snowboard.

  • corey g

‘We’re BrOKe’ just sums it up!. So TruE!

  • DJ Nebula

‘We’re BrOKe’ for it is a reality in our current chapter in American history. I like the font and the continental look of the work, and the color scheme is very nice. It is a true statement, and T-shirts and stickers should be on every single snowboarder out there. Capita, here is your chance!

  • garry keddy

I like THE END IS NEAR

one because the US just pulled out and to just reminds me of a comedy movie

  • Alex

‘Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control’ stands out to me. It is the embodiment of the phrase ‘Too many chiefs, not enough indians.’ Everyone wants to be the boss, or to get the handout, and it is now uncommon for an individual to actually accept their place in society and work to change it for the better.

  • jason shook

I like “Satan’s Bird must be stopped” The fact that over 50% of Americans will not get it.

  • colin webb

my favorite painting is “liars laughter”. it looks so unique and it shows how mean people can be. they will make a lie or rumor about you and while your all bummed they are just sitting their laughing at you. stupid assholes.

  • Vincent

The best painting is “Does God hear Our Prayers”. My reasoning for this is that we all have our wants and needs and we there are ties when we dont get them and we pray for them, and at times we really want to know if God hears us.

  • connor

key to the city. it’s a great example of his style from that time period, and knives are badass without being pretentious.

  • Tim Matchulat

‘Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control’ is awsm. it show patriotism and i think it symbolizes how lazy america has become at the same time

  • jeremy keenan

Americas obsession with twin child actors……love the blank eyes….

  • Aaron

My closest friend is leaving for the United States Army January 4th and he would love the painting “There’s Strong And Then There’s Army Strong – Don’t Be A Pussy!” If there was one gift I could leave him with, it would be this painting.

  • Zach K

My favorite is “there’s strong, and then there’s amy strong” because when i first started snowboarding i went on a weekend trip with a friend, and as we were getting on a lift we saw a sticker on a guys board that said ” dont be a pussy”, and that was our motto for the entire trip and it really got me to just go out and do things i wouldn’t have otherwise, and the giant wording on the painting reminded me of that.

  • Thomas

My favorite painting would have to be the 2004 “Key To The City” painting. Although he took a very simplistic approach to the painting, the title gives a far deeper underlining tone to this rather bewildering art collection. I really enjoyed all of the paintings done by Corey; and, it really shows in the titling of his paintings that he is far more conscious of what goes on around the world; which is something that many of us lack in today’s egotistical society.

Really great stuff and I hope to see more of Corey’s paintings within Capita’s future snowboard collections.

  • Nick

I really like the ‘Homogenize the Human Experience with Beta Blockers’. I came home from college a week ago to find out that a lot of people from my hometown have started to go into a slippery slope of drug abuse. They look bad when not on drugs, and I can’t stand to see them on drugs. It makes me sick the path that many have taken in this day and age and just how wasted human life has come to.

  • Dave

The Obsolete Dreams is very wit it and my personal favorite. Although, being broke during shred season is not wit it. Help me get off of this 92′ 148cm Rental Board that I got from ski shop closing sale!!

  • Lausch

i like most ‘Questions of the Universe’ cause sometimes me and my best friend sitting in my room and think about th world. How the people behave how beautiful the nature is or something linke this.

  • Antonio Phumipraphat

My favorite painting is the “America’s Obsession with Twin Zombie Child Actors” it just looks like something Capita would have as a graphic. especially on a stair master or horoscope

  • Dave

Latest Fitness Craze 1 because it’s the similar artwork on the Stairmaster series! Funny as hell!

  • SimonV

My Favourite painting is probably “It’s going to be expensive to split these fuckers” (2004) because I have a twin sister, and it makes me think of how strange it would be if we had been conjoined at birth. I really enjoy the shades of blue used throughout this painting because it gives it kind of an eerie, and sterile hospital feeling. Keep making amazing art Corey!

  • tre whatley

‘Homogenize the Human Experience With Beta Blockers’ 3′x3′ mixed media on wood frame with gloss resin finish. Stands out from wall approx. 4″. its looks crazy and reminds me how i broke my capit horrorscope fk yesterday have some fun so to say ;)

“Start your own religion” It’s like a lesbo version of brady bunch during the scarlet letter A or Salem Witch Trial days

  • Max Sun

Obsolete Dreams. I love skeletons and space so it’s perfect.

  • Aliza

My favorite is ‘America’s Obsession with Twin Zombie Child Actors’. This should definitely be on a girls board it would be so sick and I would totally rep it. Love how the only color is their lips, and the white eyes and dripping paint gives it a grungy feel that I love!

  • jonathan koch

My favorite painting is the ‘start your own religion’, because it reminds me of satan which reminds me of santa, which tomorrows holiday is.. CHRISTMAS, and not only that, I recognise these fine ladies from my previous capita stair master which I miss dearly.. man, “I’m sick of being cool” in reality I love all the work this man does, I just like how he flipped the script on some innocent church girls, merry christmas to snowboard mag!

  • http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100000545773705 Brett

So im really diggin’ the “Were Broke” America paintings. I looked at them laughed my ass off and though “damn, this cat understands.” Bein a snowboard instructor at Stratton, and trying to rent a house is the definition of being broke. Shit, our neighbor brings our broke asses muffins everyday cuz we cant feed ourselves. We dont care about bein broke though. Were snowboarding 7 days a week First Chair Last Call style, and thats all that matters. This painting is like BAM! Were broke, but who gives a crap cuz were doin our thang out there and thats all that matters, brah.

  • brobama

my favorite painting by corey smith is ‘questions of the universe’ #2, ‘why are we here?’. this painting first caught my eye because of the comic book styling of the 2 characters juxtaposed against the vacuum of space. i dig all of coreys typography, and this one especially because of the cleanliness of the text and the vibrant colors within them. lifes biggest question with some cool ass comic characters, and of course the rawness of space. i <3 art

  • jordan isaacson

satan is waitin is awesome! i think it would make for an awesome board definately capita style!

  • Milly

‘Looking at you like a chocolate covered pork chop’.

    For a number of reasons:

    1. Because, look at her, she’s adorable.
    2. Wait, it could be a bloke in a wig.
    3. Big boobs!
    4. Big moobs?
    5. She’s so helpful, lifting her Fupa.
    6. What is he hiding under there?

I don’t go into big meanings because others have done that far better than me, I just go in for the crass humour in order to defend my tiny amount of awesome.

  • Tanner Bogle

We’re BrOKe because it symbolizes how much debt the US is in yet we try to make it seem like The United States is the Greatest Country in the world when reallly we are in a deep hole of despair that we might never get out of unless we won like a world lottery. It’s just so inspirational and it’s like the Government needs to see it and maybe it’ll wake them up.

  • omar D

Being originally from socal I am going have to go with the “your dreams may not be in California painting” It says “money makes the manx southern California X” painting from the 2006-2008 online collection.
This painting is so rad because a lot of people from the midwest ( Minneapolis, is where I live now) move to California with these high hopes and dreams of making it big just by moving out there. It’s not what its all cracked up to be, but whatever suits your fancy I guess. It works for some, but most end up being a little fish in a big pond, working some dead end job or not the job/ career they had envisioned!

On another note the graphics on the stair master are 100% legit!

    Cheers!

  • Chris Grady

“we’re brOKe” is really good. nice artistic play on words that really rings true these days

  • Bryan Corteel

The thing that I must have to say is that instead of likeing one painting in particular I actually chose the series of paintings he made during the period 2009-2011.
    Why?
Just for the simple reason that I see him exploring a bit more with type in his paintings. Type/Typography is a thing that is so present in our everyday lives and it is great to see that people explore with it, especially on a non-digital canvas such as Corey Smith does. I just like the clean approach he usses with them and tries to say so many with sometimes just that simple kind of type.
What would our world be without type? What would Capita be without it? Can you imagine your designs being made in Word? I think us spectators and especially you guys from Capita can be very glad with Corey and his exploring in the field of typography.

Thanks for sharing this with me
    Bryan

    Peace!

  • Zack

Favorite one has got to be “Pink Stealth Fighters come to Save the World” The F-117 is a BAMF. PERIOD. One of the coolest planes ever, I mean, who ever thought of a stealth bomber? Pure Genius. And since most of us can’t see them because there are only 3 in display in the US and the rest were sent to the boneyard. This painting whimsically takes the F-117 and has it dragging a banner saying “The End is Near =).” Seeing something that shade of pink dragging something as morose as “The End is Near” is something I found very humorous!

  • Kyle

I like ‘The World Is Ours’ because I feel it holds many meanings at the same time. Look at it one way and it portrays childhood innocence and carefree attitude. But it also shows how Americans strive for material goods and that is what makes a lot of people happy.

  • Blaise

start your own religion because i masturbate to “bastard”

  • Jordon

‘Obsolete Dreams’ It is my favorite because it really shows the blank stare you have when you dream.

  • http://sheldonpowell.prosite.com/ Sheldon Powell

My favorite Corey Smith’s painting would be the Paris hilton 2006 mixed media on wood frame. Your style has a playful/serious message like in your 2009-2011 works. I love the creativity you come up with using famous objects such as ‘Paris Hilton’ to me I see you throwing what people should be seeing not what they are brainwashed to see. All of your colors are amazing by the way, the layout of the page and all. I can tell Corey is a big part of Capita’s art work. I really admire the work Capita puts in their company. And I love capita board but I think I am too big, I’ve been riding The capita indoors survival Fk 159 and the first week I rode it i broke it and bought another one and today I actually broke my other one. Bummer but it happens when your 250 and throw down. It’s suck the baby is still holding up. Well thanks for the opportunity to win a board also thank you for SCOTT STEVENS!!! DOPEST RIDER ON THE TEAM VIDEOS CRAZY!!!

  • Cameron Eckersley

“Contemporary Art Is So Confusing” is awesome because it is so subtly true. People are slowly becoming less innovative/creative with original ideas, everything seems to just be a rip off of something else. Everyone should support all forms of creativity and motivate all others to be creative!

  • Chris

I chose “Homogenize the Human Experience with Beta Blockers” I like the irony of the girl crying with the speech bubble saying “the dope feels good” It’s interesting and deep looking. Also, I like the word dope haha. Riding a brand spankin new Stairmaster would definitely be dope!

  • Jordan Wells

My favorite Corey Smith painting is “Start Your Own Religion”. I like this painting especially because it reminds me of my old Stairmaster snowboard from 2008. The upside down cross on their foreheads, the black/white with red blood and smiling faces… AWESOME!

  • charlie

“The World Is Ours” Becasue it reminds me of when my cousin and I would race these sweet little cars around my grandparents’ yard.

  • Robert Männa

It’s hard to decide. Somehow I love the broke one. Why? Cause U.S. is broke, but Americans just can’t understand it. Satan is waiting is also cool. Why? Cause satan is waiting :D

  • Jeremy ward

I’d have to the “Satan is waitin’” We all know that deep down inside of us there is a little devil that wants to jump out and demonize everything in its path. as much as you deny it we all know that everyone has sinned before but that shouldnt keep you from living the way you live day to day. alls im sayin is SATAN IS WAITIN! now lets go get some excercise on one of them new stairmasters!!!

  • Kevin

Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control.

    It’s poignant.

I’m all about the “latest fitness craze 2″ cause I know that girl is gunna fool everyone and look real good this summer in her bikini

  • Nathan Chase

My favorite is “looking at you like a chocolate covered pork chop” couldnt stop looking at it and laughing and all i could think of was FUPA “fat upper pu$$y area”

  • https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=559506263 chris bohannan

“looking at you like a chocolate covered pork chop”….. fat girls need love too! just more cushion for the pushin!

  • Logan

The one with the upside down cross over California because it reminds me of OF which is the best group of rappers to ever live. Its just all around a sick painting.

  • Wes Tiongco

Lucifer Rising. Simply put- technicolor typography. The meaning of Lucifer is associated with all that is evil. Smith’s representation of “the” social/ religious despot in technicolor gives the pieces an ironic, socially satirical twist.

  • Kody Yarosloski

My favorite painting is ‘MR. HAMILTON JR. HIGH SCHOOL PE COACH’ because its dope! the PE teacher has a prosthetic arm. It says you can do anything, I also like his tight mustache and the expression on his face.

  • Philip Scott

So i would pick good vibrations AKA beach sluts becasue i used to live by the beach when i was super young, and when i was super young i became a pervert. But not only that but becasue my dream last was about a beach, and makeing out with a girl from my school, and snowboarding. Pretty damn good dream i must say.

  • Cruz

I liked “Unholy War Waged Under American Corporate Dictatorship” the best. The way I interpreted this painting might be different from what Corey intended (but thats all art) but I think it depicts how money is the number one cause for evil, how our nation is constricted by its own greed and desire to be the strongest country in the world, and that many are so proud of America but our country is responsible for many catastrophies that have occured throughout US history. I also interpreted from this painting the irony behind the actual teachings of Christ and those that try to “spread” the message when in all actuality, are going against almost everything jesus believed in and only care for money. Good shit Corey!

  • Kyle Cacciotti

Oh so many options, many unique pieces Cory has put up on his website. Out of all of the paintings by far the “it’s only natural”. It may be immature to think that deer having sex and another deer having sex, but i’m looking at as if it were on a board. I personally think it would be hilarious to won a board and have that art on top of it Just like that stairmaster. Having a fat person on the top of your board working out may look strange at first, but something will always draw you back because it’s highly unlikely that you will see something so uniquely hilarious ontop of a snowboard anywhere else. It’s just me, i think having deer having sex with each other would just be too awesome to pass up and not buy.

  • Patrick

“We’re Broke!” – Simple, honest, funny.

  • Toby

‘America’s Obsession with Twin Zombie Child Actors’
because it would be cool on a snowboard deck :)

  • Vaughan Gilmore

My favorite has to be the Don’t be a pussy. This such a great motivator, seeing that this is exactly what i tell myself each day I ride park, or any new feature. Any time riding the park with my crew its a saying that comes out of everyone’s mouth. “Hey jack front board that rail??? come on don’t be a pussy!” This is usually the pushing point to where you’re just like Eff it ill do it. This one little phrase pushes me to try all kinds of new things and make some fun adventurers. Who out there hasn’t been motivated to do something crazy and stupid just cause your douche bag friends say “Don’t be a pussy!” So this painting with this phrase just makes me remember all of the crazy things I’ve done from just being called a pussy.

  • Lance Lentini

“We’re BrOKe” cause the country is broke!

  • Jason khoury

12/18 “Questions of the universe” the fact that he paint about real shit instead of some trees. i mean dont get me wrong trees are dope. its just that in art it has to have meaning, and i think that a painting that has a meaning which is trying to understand the meaning of all means is sweet. the kids good at art thats fosho.

  • Jack Girard

“American Diet vs. Darfur Diet” is my favorite. The weight these women have lost is almost equal to the life expectancy of four of those kids in years. Neat eh?

  • Ryan

“Marry Rich or Die Trying” issss myy favvorite beccause now myy computerr sccreen is as white as snnow, iff you knoww whatt I meann. Sorry, it is hard to typpe becausee my keyboardd is all stickky now too.

  • samuel vachon

I love the we’re broke series , absolutely true, and getting more true everyday. it could be fucking nice with theses colors in big caracters on the bottom of a board

  • Dan D

I liked the were broke one. because like, im broke, but i still tell people im okay, haha. Man, I took like 15 bong hits in 2 minutes. On second thought after scrolling a little further i change my favorite thingy to the one that says the dope feels good, because it does. but it can also fell, like, too good, maaan.

  • Cameron drak

“welcome to hell” gotta rep Cali. Up in Oregon shreddin it up think the picture shows allot and what’s in the cross is what makes it all .

  • http://www.coreysmithtimetravel.com/2009.html Aaron Joseph Summers

I think the picture that means the most to me is (: the end is near! because you never know when your gonna die and if the world will end or not so i for sure wanna ride a stair master before i die !!!! thanks capita and have a damn good Christmas/or Hanukkah !

  • TK

“There’s strong and Then There’s army strong” is my favorite painting. The phrase “Don’t be a Pussy!” is only four words long, but packs a powerful punch. Whether its pushing yourself to land that terrifying trick, or standing up for yourself when you’re being picked on, remembering to stay strong is the most important thing anyone can do. I don’t care who you are, when someone tells you, “Don’t be a Pussy!” a sense of anger and motivation arises, creating an urge to challenge yourself and prove them wrong. As the picture depicts, there are soldiers out there who are risking their lives for us. Talk about not being a pussy. Think about that the next time you freak out over the tiny spider in your bathroom.

  • jacob franco

‘Homogenize the Human Experience With Beta Blockers’ is the painting i would pick because the dope does feel good. and it would be Totally FK’n Awesome on a board!

  • Jonathan Houck

The best painting in my opinion is the “Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control”. This piece of art is the best because of the blunt comparison to life in today’s society. America is run by computers and by the need for electronic devices. Electronics are slowly becoming what makes up America. Imagine what life would be like if everyone suddenly lost their “remotes”. There would be no control over their lives, no way to progress, the only way for humanity to go would be backwards to a simpler time. Imagine how the people that lost these remotes to begin with feel and picture that resonating throughout the entire cultural fabric

  • Arel

I think the work titled “were broke” is truely awsome. Similar to many of Cory Smith’s other works it capitalizes on the negative zeitgeist of the time and makes it humurous. Its important for people to do this because humor helps, although im unemployed as well as much of my family and my town when i see that painting i still laugh. It almost puts things into persepective, atleast i can still laugh.

  • http://saenenalexander.wordpress.com Alexander S.

My favourite is definitly the collab between Cory smith and Noel Sinclair Boyt ‘Welcome to hell’. I like it because I think it’s rather subtle and open to multiple interpretations . Since I don’t live in the USA I see california as a place where life is good and everyday is one big party but that it has a dark side as well. In the city of dreams more dreams have been shattered then come true. It’s one big rat race which drives people to deny themselves and do things they never normally would just to try to make it in that shallow world. I like how the christian reference (as well in the title as in the painting itself) makes you think in this direction. I also like how all of this is shown (transeferred) in a very simple yet very esthetic form. The clean black cutout of the state of california with the cross made out of pictures and newspaper headlines really work well together. All in all I really like Cory’s work overall but this one stands out for me.
(English is not my native language so I hope I properly expressed myself and you can understand what I tried to say)

  • Keagen

I’m diggin’ the American Diet vs Darfur Diet. It’s a dope picture, and shows how fucked up and concerned people are in America about there bodies looks, and thats it. When there’s people in other countries way less fortunate with no option. So many bullshit people in America. (I’m from America)

  • Matt Hodgins

Cory Smith’s ‘God Bless Success’ 2006 painting is my favourite for sure. It has so much more of a meaning then just getting paid, then getting laid too it. The American Dream is a national spirit of the United States in which freedom includes the promise of prosperity and success. Corey is able to transfer this image onto a canvas and turn it into a piece of art, that in today’s standards, is an unuasual painting. Corey keeps his art like this appealing to many crowds and very enjoyable in the snowboarding community.

  • Garrett Shaffner

“Start your own religion” -#1 welp all the ladies from the beta phi omega lesbian sorority house had their periods together again… they know how to party. #2 Dude don’t go to ashley’s new religion meeting… scott went last night and she bit his dick off.

  • ryan

My fav is deff “Obsolete Dreams” It symbolizes what media can do to society, plain and simple

  • http://www.facebook.com/Silverballer12 Kyle Charnley

My favorite would have to be ‘Obsolete Dreams’ because it really represents how much are country has changed. Every little kids dream used to be to grow up and be an astronaut. Suddenly like a light switch, it all changed and the space program seemed to die. Now it’s a celebrity addiction where drugs and the rockstar life seem to attract the feeble minds of the young. It’s a shame, but it’s the way of life. Definitely my favorite though.

  • Bryan Stearns

    Latest fitness craze 2, 2003.
I like this one the best because it’s hilarious and makes you think. The world is so packed full of consumerism and shortcuts, that people will buy anything that will help them get what they want faster. This painting makes you reminisce about terrible tv ads for the abcircle pro, or any other weird-ass looking workout device (e.g. shakeweight)… And instead of actually thinking through the mechanics of these items, people buy them expecting to look like the person in the ad. If people stop to think about the logistics of it, and many other things in this world, they will see that exercise gimmicks dont equal natural exercise. It’s funny how blind people are to others attempts to make money, and it’s also funny to see how often people are looking for the easiest/laziest way to do something. the “Latest Fitness Craze 2″ inspires thought on consumerism and the human condition.

  • John Flaherty

    ‘Perversions of Religion’

Reason is because when I first saw the colours it reminded me of the horoscope graphics, which coincidentally is the board that I want to win. Plus the moral message in the painting I agree with.

So basically its because it reminded me of the board, and that underlying message is good m’kay.

  • Daniel Zuyev

the “Unholy War Waged Under American Corporate Dictatorship” shows exactly how i feel about the politics the government is using. Invading innocent countries for oil and drugs scapegoating religious fanatics for all their evil doings. Greed is the American government. peace

  • bryce moffat

‘pink stealth fighters coming to save the world’ because hope is real and theres always a pink stealth fighter somewhere brightening days up and making them seem like theyd last forever. the end is real, so is hope. Capita is my pink stealth fighter and everytime i watch it i smile, even though the end is eventually coming (death) watching you guys shred makes time stand still. keep on soaring pink stealth fighters your saving everyone with your videos !

    passion is a powerful thing.

  • William G

My favorite has got to be “perversions of religion” because it makes a really interesting statement about how religion can be twisted and mean different things for different people.
P.S. Capita rocks! and so does the mag!

  • Nick Thomas

My favourite Corey Smith painting is “Good Vibrations” Its an older one, but man do beach sluts fuckin rule. Gotta love babes in little bikinis rollin round in the sand and water just whoring it up. Fuck yeah Corey Smith is the best guy to design the capita boards, he is one badass mofucka.

  • Patrick M

The “Pink Fighters Coming to Save The World” Painting is my favorite because it shows the humorous truth that the media ignores, it shows us the truth without trying to sell us fear.

  • Birdrider

We’re Broke” and I’m not going to lie, I’m just here for free shit like everyone else.

  • Pierre

I really enjoyed “Modern Art Is So confusing” just because he characterizes the way a lot of “modern” artists just rip off other movements from the past like Lichenstein or Warhol in Pop Art. This addresses the fact that theres far less creativity now then in preceding decades. At the same time Corey places himself in the shoes of the viewer to give the whole piece some objectivity. Very nice, I hope that Mr Brainwash dudes sees this piece and learns something. Seriously screw that guy.

  • ben song

‘nothing says fuck off to poor people like a nice watch’2004 is the best one because not only does the fake rolex watch comes out of the painting but the title of it is true and straight forward. People like my boss are walking around with a $20,000 breitling watch that is meant to tell time, yet people wear it like it’s supposed to show off a status of some sort, who cares. Maybe there is a reason why corey smith painted ‘we’re broke’ years later. The amount of money spent on watches could have gone to somewhere much useful than your wrist.

  • Desmond Miles

My favorite one was, “unholy war waged under American Corporate”. This was my favorite one because we are living in the last days!!!! We as people are fighting “THE WAR OF LIFE”!!! Everyday we’re alive, the Devil is plotting against us!!! The Devil really works hard at doing his job!!! What is his job, you ask? Well, his job is to STEAL, KILL, AND DESTROY US!!! WE’RE AT WAR, WITH NOT ONLY IRAQ, BUT WE’RE AT WAR WITH GENERATIONAL CURSES THAT WERE PASSED TO US THROUGH OUR ANCESTORS, WERE AT WAR WITH NUMEROUS ADDICTIONS, SOME OF US IS HOLDING ON TO UNFORGIVENESS, A LOT OF US IS FIGHTING NUMEROUS HEALTH ISSUES,FIGHTING DEPRESSION OVER THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE, AND THE LIST GOES ON & ON & ON! EVERYDAY TELLS A DIFFERENT STORY!!! THERE’S EVEN A WAR BETWEEN THE REPUBLICANS & DEMOCRATS!!!!! EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK, THERE’S WAR!!! I THANK GOD FOR PRAYER!! NONE OF THESE ABOVE ISSUES IS TOO BIG FOR GOD!!! THE GOOD NEWS IS, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SITUATION IS, YOU WILL SURVIVE!!! LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR, AND SAY, “I SHALL LIVE & NOT DIE”!!!!

  • http://wikileaks.com Mike O’Dea

“Red Stat Love Affair” no doubt. I love how much it looks like Sarah Palin/

  • greg b

‘Looking At You Like a Chocolate Covered Pork Chop’ … whatta fox

  • https://www.facebook.com/nhiser Noah

I think the “Liar’s Laughter” Painting is my favorite, Immediately when I saw it it reminded me of everyone whos been two-faced to me or talked shit behind my back. Then I realized the painting represents everyone in america. Your insurance agent, our politicians, even your friends. Sometimes you just have to sit back and think about stuff a different way than how you and everyone else thinks about it. I kind of zoned out after seeing this one and just chilled for a second to think about all this. It could also be yourself, think about all the times you have lied to gain for yourself. The painting just engulfs your many personas as well as human nature and the threshold that keeps our relationships in tact. If I had to sum it up in one line it’s be “Lying, the only way to get anywhere in america”. Great photos though this guy has some freak abilities.

  • Cooper Hartman

“Start your own religion” For sure, definitely my favorite, the girl on the top middle was the artwork on my first ever Capita! Definitely good memories on that Stairmaster. Since, I haven’t bough anything else other than Capita boards!I retired the board and it’s hanging up in my room as artwork!!!

  • Christian

I was always curious who did some of the graphics for capita but never did the research to find out, so this contest has already hooked me up! ‘American Diet vs. Darfur Diet’ is my favorite piece. Not only is it visually attractive but it highlights something we really should to take notice to. Our culture in America differs so much from cultures of third world countries and the way we live and act is trully unhealthy. We make television series and shed light on people losing weight in the United States while in countries like Darfur and Kenya, they physically NEED some of that weight in order to continue to survive. What we call dieting, they call suffering. I have noticed this contrast in culture and it really makes you look at our situation in the United States a lot different. Smith did an amazing job expressing it in his medium and I believe the painting statement is prevalent and powerful.

  • Connor Irwin

    definitely Beach Sluts.
First of all, everyone loves beach sluts.
second of all, everyone loves beach sluts.

I’m bout to get the stair master 156 :))))
it would be rad to get it fo’ free

  • Robert Guiles

“obsalete dreams” I see many differnt people, many differnt colors of people all wanting the same thing, and with the space concept they dream of reaching a place not yet achieved…..but a place others dont dare to go because off the unknown…

  • Ben Rubin

“American diet vs. the Darfur diet” is the best one. It’s intriguing and disturbing at the same time and really shows how much we who live in prosperous countries take things, such as food and water, for granted.

  • killblinton

Smith’s scrawlings all give some kind of sarcastic nodtwords “fundamental values” or making fun of the way of life in america. Cool how wordplay is integrated into alot of the pieces to make a pun or statement. that being said im feelin that modern woman piece from the 03-05 paintings because its a reproduction of porn, but its making a comment about the weird media induced standard for women these days. the color selection is rad, this one woudl actually make a good tattoo.

  • Keith Straume

I really like the picture of the U.S. that says were broke! I think its way funny how it says were “ok” if you look at it differently. very sweet

  • Kenny

I’m diggin the good vibrations painting, cuz that’s what snowboarding is all about, and I mean, who doesn’t like beach sluts right?

  • nastya

I would make a snowboard with “Smile, the end is near!” on it.
Imagine you are in the air, about to land, you realize that
you won’t end up well and your entire life flashes in front of your eyes.
Then you look at your board and you smile :)

So im going to have to go with the ‘perversions of religion’ painting. First off, because the fact that religion is such a touchy subject and so many different things can be inferred from this. I like the fact that there are members of the KKK in the background, kindof pitting the good(lords prayer) against the evil, because honestly, do people choose to be good, or do they choose to be bad? makes me think of a clockwork orange. Also digging the fact that the KKK members robes have been put into different colors, not simply white, to me that means that evil and racism etc. comes in all forms. great work from this guy, really makes you think, and awesome giveaway idea!!

  • nick

the one i ilke is the one that says we’er broke. it shows the american sprite. that things maybe broken but we are the greatest go dam country in the world and we can make it through the tough times and we can fix what is broken. america is has been a world leader for years now, we need to show the world that we can

  • evan kill (sh)it

I like “american diet vs darfur diet” because its fucking true and americans need to WAKE THE FUCK UP AND REALIZE HOW MUCH THEY HAVE AND NOT ABUSE IT. And I also like “start you own religion” because its everything i stand for in life: defacing the rich with anarchy and satan.

“There’s strong, and then there’s Army strong” 06-08

it’s a widespread thought, staring down from the top of the park ready to drop in… lay down those aerials you’ve been locking in on the tramps all summer & fall waiting for some snow. That steep that’s got a lump in your throat, that pillow line you’ve been watching… whatever scenario you’re in.. Progression…. that’s what this sports come to be. Whether you’re out there to progress your riding, or progress your understanding of the unity the sport brings… At the beginning of it all, it all starts in the mind & “Don’t be a PUSSY” is quite possibly the best motivation for me, and other riders I know, to lay down that banger you’ve been waiting for…. Happy shredding everyone.

Would be excellent to be on a new stairmaster the next time i’m about to drop in…. ” Don’t be a pussy” think that would make it much more of a heavy hitter… huge motivation.

    Good luck to all!

  • Roland York

‘Pink Sunsets and Black and White Beauties’ is my favorite because its beautiful. Not only is it fun to look at but, the ‘Rx’ in the background, makes me feel as though this picture is the prescription for good times, and that makes me happy. Pink sunsets are always nice, and black and white beauties always are easy on the eyes. Overall this piece of art makes me feel good and that is why this is my favorite.

  • Garrett H

“Pink Stealth Fighters Coming to Save the World” would definitely have to be my favorite. It portrays the reality behind life and leaves you in a positive mood. It is saying don’t waste you time do what you love and makes you happy. I was able to relate to it by looking to snowboarding and it really encourages me to push my snowboarding and love for it.

  • Joel Bro dude man.

I really kinda like the Obsolete Dreams, very vintange feeling and yet new. Sems like the face is the frist thing you look at since everything else is in black and white. MY favoritein the one with all 7 of the astronauts together. I would definitly get one for my house, or better yet as a board graffic.

  • Joel Bro dude man.

I like the Obsolete Dreams series, is my fav is the one with all seven astronauts. I would deff take that as a borad graffic or even hang in my house. The face is the first thing you see since the reast is black and white. Seems like hes trying to say that the the things we dream about like space travel can take you away for everything, as if you were dead? . . . yeah idk. Still is tight.

  • Rowan

I like the one with “dope feels good” because, well, it does!

I like the painting with the “what a rip off” in it ( ‘Contemporary Art Is So Confusing’) http://www.coreysmithtimetravel.com/2006.html

It’s a very original painting and quite contraversial; he is making fun of himself while on the other hand he actually is quite original!
He is making fun of art in general as well, and that’s why i like this painting a lot!

  • Derek

“”"Jesus Knows How Many Cocks You Suck”"” cause it shows how our world looks like nowadays… I hope that the same think aint gonna happen to snowboarding. This painting is rally simple and plain but it has got really strong message. Wake up world because we’re going straight to hell!

  • Kyle willetts

Time travel I really like the American icons on a cross it looks awesome

  • Daniel Moskov

Quick load from 2006 the revolver is powerful but it never works alone u need bullet and somebody to shoot, for me it represents the life if you want to have something powerful you need know that you cant be alone. Cooperation is everything

  • Jackie

quick load from 2006 is my favorite because it shows that guns don’t act alone, someone needs to pull the trigger. guns don’t kill people, people do.

I like the perversions of religion, thats such a wholesome verse to base a design around. I also like to see your centered around religion, even if your just using religion in art or in your real life, the painting is great. Amen.

    “Wild Fuck Crazed Bunnies”
    Reason for my favorite:
    - Because they are Wild Fuck Crazed Bunnies. The exact bunnies I keep at home. Wild Fuck and crazed.

  • Ben Carney

I think my favourite piece is ‘Lucifer Rising’, because it reminds me that everyone has a little devil inside them waiting to come out, despite creed or colour.

  • http://marlinolynyk.com Marlin Olynyk

“Red State Love Affair” My mom is a hunter and love heading to the shooting range and I think that she’d really appreciate this piece. I also like it because the guy looks a lot like my dad and he is the one that taught my mom to shoot.

“The world is ours 2005′ – Because hanging with the family around the holidays makes you realize that the dream is still alive in young eyes. It inspires to keep us young and focused on the important things as we grow old and should strive to conquer the world one fun day at a time.

  • Duncan

My personal favourite was “Obsolete Dreams” because I could somehow relate to it and understand it.

  • Parsa

my favorite would have to be “Dont Worry It’ll All Be Over Soon” because it truly and directly states the obvious ending of everyone’s lives and does so with a pink background which sincerely tells the reality while at the same time creating a sense of comfort along with the unacceptable and feared curse of death.

  • Rich Adams

Obsotete Dreams b/c we are all F$#@%9 by own ambitions

  • Steve Brule

“The World Is Ours” is my favorite because when you’re rolling in a powerwheel as a kid, you might as well be Tony Montana!

  • Luoma

Quickload- it’s super clean. The super bold comic book style is really neat!

  • George Cowan

Definitely has to be “The World is Ours”.
As a child, anything is possible, the imagination is limited and life is great! This painting, with the two children having fun with so little conveys this for me and I like it most because I feel that this is the way I try live my life!

“to much remote, not enough control” plays off the laziness of our society as well as people will believe anything. #occupyeverywhere

  • Tanya

“We’re BrOKe” is pretty cool with the color variations and I really like what it depicts. We are out of money here in America, yet we all seem to look the other way and believe we have nothing to worry about. I mean, this is America, we’re all just living a dream, right?

  • http://flikr.com/yeahdinosaur Rio.T

IT’S FUNNY BECAUSE OF ROY LICHTENSTEIN! That was my hook*. I figured a good comment would have to grab the reader within the first sentence by making them curious. So if you got this far I guess it worked; please don’t stop now, you might even learn something.

Corey Smith’s 2008 piece “Contemporary Art Is So Confusing” is one that especially grabbed me through its subtle wit and humour. As the thought bubble of the pictured lady suggests, the painting is indeed a RIPOFF! The so called ‘original’ is done by the famous pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, and looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lafrida/4059046722/in/set-72157622696470974/

Though Lichtenstein has become a very well known figure in contemporary art, one of his paintings recently auctioned off at $42 million, he himself was notorious for ripping-off work done by comic book artists from the 40′s and 50′s. Examples of his plagiarism can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/deconstructing-roy-lichtenstein/page3/

When Corey’s lady thinks to herself, “A rip off of a rip off of a rip off?!?!?! WHAT A RIP OFF!!!”, we now know the extent of the ‘INCEPTION’.
Furthermore, when we realize that the original artist was most likely an under-paid and unknown comic illustrator who was then ripped-off by a famous pop-artist who earned millions through his plagorism and who in turn was ripped off my a lesser known artist in order to make fun of the later, we can agree with the piece’s title that modern art is indeed confusing.

This multi-layered jab at contemporary art history, though nerdy to some, made this piece especially stand out to me. Although this comment was fairly informative, a format that is unlikely to win anything, I hope some one reads it and enjoys the depth Corey put into this particular piece.

  • Elias Fowler

    “We’re BrOKe”……..It’s true……

  • Andrew

I don’t like any of them. So pick me.

  • Colton Whitworth

I like “Enjoy Life” because this painting makes me wonder wtf…how am I supposed to feel about this one. Pretty girl, breastfeeding…she is attempting to do good, but she says wtf…enjoy life, Im smoking.

  • TPA

Please read the whole reasoning, it will not disappoint; I promise. I like “Questions of the Universe”, particularly the one that asks, “Why are we here?”. This is the fundamental question that can define our existence. Every action we take as human beings relates to what we believe our purpose is. This is one of the most basic questions we will take upon ourselves to answer in hopes of figuring out what our purpose is; or at least what we believe it is. This question is what drew me into the snowboarding lifestyle, and eventually snowboarding lead me find myself and purpose. I was unhappy with the people surrounding me and the sentimentals they held. The more I grew to love snowboarding, the more I hated leaving the hills and returning to the desolate social network my high-school was to me. I asked myself, “Why am I here, somewhere I hate?”. My senior year I applied to Sierra Nevada College, knowing only that I could snowboard if nothing else worked out in Lake Tahoe. I now am finishing an Entrepreneurship major and plan on starting up companies that I can work hand-in-hand with other people and teach them to love and appreciate through practical businesses. Many people never answer this question of why they are here. But that is life, the experiences and hardships we endure as we pursue & reshape our dreams and hopes. This is a question that can never be defined and answered for human-kind as a whole; but why should we want it to be? We are all individuals with different aspirations. Our inability to answer this question is what makes each of us our own person; it is what makes us human.
(P.S. After reading what I wrote, I realized it relates directly to a T-Shirt design I made when I was a senior in high-school 3 years ago. The reaching hand represents our pursuit of our dreams, and the cloud, out of reach, represents those dreams. Now as I look at it, I feel it represents the question, “Why are we here?”. Take a look [copy link exactly]:: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/atreyu33/08-dream-big.jpg ::)

“attitude is everything” is my favorite for 3 reasons. #1 cuz its a 152. #2 cuz free weights are the only way to roll. And #3 attitude really IS everything…………………………………but it doesn’t hurt to have a little steez to match your attitude. Just keep it positive. And, lemme get my board now so I can start my season?
    Thanks.

  • Shannon

My personal favorite is the three painting series,”Questions of the Universe”.I don’t like it because it ‘makes you thing’ or ‘fundamental questions’, I like it because it’s funny how people think that those questions even matter. Who cares why the fuck we’re here, we’re here aren’t we? I really like how the two people are just two white middle class adults, which represents that people who are well off only worry about stupid shit that won’t make a difference. Who cares what will heaven be like? We’ll know when we’re there.
Oh, and I like the background too. It’s nice.

  • Bert

All these paintings are turds, but gimme a snowboard anyway. ‘Lucifer Rising’ is nearly acceptable, but just nearly… and only as a base graphic.

  • http://www.chillfolio.de Marcel

My favorite is „Marry Rich Or Die Traying“, cause i love (her) tits.

  • Raya Dyadkina

My favorite is ‘Your Love Is Like Communism’, because of the hidden meanings behind the attractive, blatant eyes of the girl. Communism is a system where everyone is equal. Where everyone shares their labor for something bigger. A bigger plan as to ensure that there is no middle class or lower class, just people. With some women, their love is like communism-shared with others for the welfare of society. Everyone is equal in her eyes, and everyone is given an opportunity. “A good book is always worn”, just like the women, and exactly why her love is like communism.

  • Adam Belair

‘Start Your Own Religion’ mixed media on wood panel with gloss resin finish.’ just really spoke to me, i really like this painting because it is something i would paint. great art work by the way!

  • jim thomas

I like “We’re BrOKe” It reminds me that this country needs some direction to pull out of the ditch..

  • Gaz

Its got to be “we’re broKe” cause it doesn’t matter how broke we are the love for snowboarding drags us back every season….

  • Chris G

My favorite is “Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control” because it has several layers of messages. It criticizes our society for addiction to passive pursuits, giving up control of our lives. It criticizes our government for being remote from the people and not allowing the common man any control, just a patriotic red, white and blue remote that doesn’t change anything. That same government shorts us out of our 50 star. Boarding counteracts remoteness by connecting us to our environment in a visceral way, and provided us the illusion of control over that environment. Cool stuff Mr. Smith!

  • Andy

We’re broke, but we’re OK!! Ignorance is bliss I reckon. But I feel for those who are actually aware of our situation. Hers a fun, freaky lil fact; THE UNITED STATES SPENDS AS MUCH ON DIET SUPPLEMENTS, TO LOSE WEIGHT, AS IT WOULD TAKE TO CURE WORLD HUNGER TWICE!! think about it, are we still OK?!?!?

  • Katy

“Pre calculus pick me-up” I used to do this!! Ahaa! NO JOKE. And I still do, difference is, now I TEACH IT!!

  • Marcus

The ‘We’re BrOKe’is my favorite, cause every country is indebted…but hey, there is snow, and a ramp. lets go boarding!

  • http://www.solidcloudmedia.com Stonia

I love “Your Dreams May Not Be In California” because I can understand exactly what his painting depicts of Socal after living there for almost a decade. A lot of artists, actors, and musicians go to LA to try and live out there dreams but it rarely happens for most people. It is all about money and showing off. The porn industry is huge down there as well and I’m sure many women end up in that industry after failing as an actress.

  • Frank Franklin

i like “it’s only natural” cause it shows that not only humans like to party.

  • dylan simpson

My favorite is “American Diet vs. Darfur Diet” due to the fact that it shows exactly what our society today has come too. Not only does it show that Americans today are doing things like loosing weight and wasting money just so they can look good when many times loosing weight just shows that they only care about what others think not about how they feel about themselves. This is why world hunger is becoming a global pandemic because Americans waste money on stupid things like loosing weight for just their own looks while those kids all over the world could be feed with just a very little amount of the money one woman or man puts into themselves. That is why I am drawn in by this painting because of the meaning and life lesson it has behind it not just that there are conceded women on it but kids who many only have the next hour of life and we as a society are to ignorant to notice what just a couple bucks can do!

  • Kevin

My favorite painting is “Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control” because it’s awesome that Corey used real remote controls to convey such a message about America. I really like the uniqueness of it and the idea – it’s so original.

  • Matt

I like the one with the chick giving a hand job and holding cash. For someone not to like it you have to be gay or a skiier. That shit is something i could never get sick of looking at haha. And brandon tizzart can go fuck himself. AMERIKA!!!

  • Matty Summers

start your own religion. Its just really hard to not be turned on by housewives with blood running from there mouth ya know.

  • Myron

‘America’s Obsession with Twin Zombie Child Actors,’ one word, masterpiece. I’ve interpreted this work as, despite the Olsen twins appearing to be a little bit mental you still would, you know, nail them…

Great work Corey, if you want to send me the board that would be peachy and if you could throw in the Olsen twin print as well that would also go down a treat.

    Happy New Year!!!

  • Jeremy

I think that the “Too Much Remote, Not Enough Control” artwork is my favorite. It makes you think about the meanings of the painting. When I looked at the painting, I instantly thought of how our country is slowly becoming more obese and lazy. The T.V. remote is a symbol to me of being a so-called “couch potato”. But then when I read the caption it made me see a different point of the art. That this country is losing contact with their inner selves and how we need a fresh life to be focused and “on task”. I thought it was interesting and it made me think about all the different meanings. Well done Corey.

  • Jimmy

“We’re Broke” should be the one I choose because it looks badass, but “Jesus knows how many cocks you suck” is just hilarious! I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw that – it’s sad.

Good Vibrations is the best. Explanation? Just gimme a momenhhhhtt… *FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP*

  • Jess

The painting that i like the most, that contained a lot of meaning is the “too much remote, not enough control.” Basically symbolizing the different powers of american. That there is no universal “remote” or idea to control america. There are to many ideas or actions in place but not enough control the carry them through. Dont get me wrong, but i love america and this painting.

  • Val

Painting: Wild Fuck Crazed Bunnies (Part 1)
    Reason: Because it’s true.

  • Tanner

The We’re BrOKe painting is my favorite because it is so true! We keep lying to ourselves saying everything is OK but in reality we’re broke and our economy horrible! We need to face the truth and bring it together!

  • Alex

“Welcome to Hell” and “We’re BrOKe” are my favorites. “Welcome to Hell” because I personally know Noel Sinclair Boyt from the skate shop I go to all the time, the Denver Shop and hes a rad dude. “We’re BrOKe” I like because it’s true.

  • Dylan

Wild Fuck Crazed Bunnies (Part 1). It’s true, artisctic, and fucking funny.

  • Dylan

‘Contemporary Art Is So Confusing’ because it shows him while he is painting. Also showing how he paints his paintings. Then ‘Contemporary Art Is So Confusing’is half done in this picture, but you can see how it was made and how it will be finished

  • Chanel Syme

The black and white print girl with the hole in her head that says dope feels good. It speaks to so many people in so many different ways. It goes into the deeper meaning of the way that dope effects the brain and her sad, tearful, wondering eyes are almost begging for more of that feeling that it brings to numb the pain that this stupid world brings with all the pressures of life that need to be taken out on the slopes. Her hands up by her face are clenched slightly likes she’s clinging to something she wishes she could have kept for a bit longer like her innocence, that false sense of innocence that we seem to hold on to for so long. This painting is beautiful. Simple; most would look it over but it’s amazing.

  • Tres Tarwater

‘Your Dreams May Not Be In California’— because the second me and my dad saw it, we said “THAT ONE!” Men and tits will never lose their connection.

  • Andrew Yanes

American Diet Vs. Darfur Diet was my favorite. This painting makes me sick of the way Americans act these days. While children around the world starve and pray for a day without hunger, we americans stuff our faces and jump on board the latest fad diet to keep us beautiful in the eyes of our peers. Just like the painting portrays the women are above the cowering children, like we put our “issue” of staying skinny above their issue of surviving. We have more than enough food and if we could focus as much attention on the starving children of the world as we do on the issue of weight loss in this country, then we could make a real difference in many lives that need it. The painting had such a strong impact on my perception of this issue and also ties well with the Capita Staimaster’s theme of self image that I couldn’t possibly choose any other painting.

My favorite painting is ‘Your Dreams May Not Be In California’ because the dude smoking the cig looks like Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars, which pretty much makes him the boss.
