While the US Snowboard Team trained for the 2010 Olympics in a halfpipe 500 yards away, the real action was going down in the Windells Snowboard Camp dude tube. Having a gold medal is cool and all but having a pro model is the epitome of pro snowboarding greatness. This means winning an America’s Next Top Pro Pro Model title puts a rider amongst the greatest of the greatest!
Big air was the name of the game for the fourth ANTPM 2010 event and pipe jocks battled it out alongside film pros and rail riders for the title of Biggest Halfpipe Air. To look at the start sheet one would assume that Andy Finch, Steve Fisher and Louie Vito had this one in the bag, but as we came to find out in the previous three events, anything can happen at ANTPM.
This unlikeliest of contest crushers chucked a mighty double-overhead frontside mute to once again climb the America’s Next Top Pro Model podium to its highest spot!
One by one the assembled icons dropped into the perfect 18 foot pipe in hopes of reaching the sky. TJ Schneider opted for an air-to-fakie and broke the head high barrier. Eddie Wall and Eero Ettala sent formidable frontsides while Andy Finch’s mighty methods skirted the double-digit mark. Pat Moore showed the most focus of the field but a nagging knee injury kept him from achieving awe inspiring airtime. Less height was had by the likes of Derek Dennison, Chris Bradshaw, MFM, Scotty Arnold, Jesse Burtner, Sean Genovese, Keegan Valaika, Bryan Fox and Austin Smith, but what they lacked in amplitude they more than made up for in style.
Three riders found themselves soaring above the rest. After careful study of the official video the tally became clear. Despite being the shortest competitor at ANTPM Louie Vito threw the third highest air. Steve Fisher earned a solid second place and his first ANTPM podium with a 12-foot high frontside. Once again, the unlikely crusher of all things snow and pro model was the Finnish flurry Lauri Heiskari.
