Rider: Bode Merrill. Location: Jackson Hole backcountry, WY. Bode Merrill is not only the best all-around snowboarder alive, he’s also one of the funniest, smartest, and most generous humans I’ve ever met. Aaron Dodds and I were in Jackson Hole with Bode and Johnnie Paxson last winter and I was basically shooting wherever Dodds wasn’t, so I got the chance to shoot Bode slaughtering the old pass road gap. This is a backside seven japan. He landed it second try. Bode is incredible, and I’m so stoked I got to shoot him, even if it was second angle.

Words & Photos: T. Bird

Senior Editor Tom Monterosso (most call him T. Bird) hails from the great state of New Hampshire. He barely snuck through college and somehow weaseled his way onto the staff of SNOWBOARDER about five years ago while living in a tent on his friend Ben Fee’s back porch. He started shooting around the time he got hired on as Associate Editor, and though his job is to craft features, columns, and captions in the print publication, photography is what currently keeps him stoked when he’s on the road. He’s also a redhead, which kinda sucks, and he’s grateful as all hell for every opportunity he’s been given despite his hair color.

T-Bird appears to have a crush on Bode. What is up for debate is whether or not such a crush is warranted. I for one, think that it might just be. But that isn't to say that I like Bode, rather, I respect him.
