Quite possibly the best thing that’s ever come from Riverside, Desiree has been putting down hammers and raising the bar for women through untapped presses and casual controlled style. Though her backlips and frontboards may look simplistic, don’t be fooled by the true level of difficulty behind her faultless maneuvers.

In 2012, the best women in snowboarding descended upon Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe, California for a few days of park laps and good vibes at Ms. Superpark. While the women charged the features, our photographers captured the action. Here are a few of our favorite photos from the ladies-only event last winter.

Riverside-bred ripper Desiree Melancon is one of the most progressive female street riders to date and this full part that just dropped is a testament to her abilities. Not only does she slay Japan pow but Desiree shuts down street features with tricks like a front lip on the Red Ledge, Québec ollie-in wallrides and a 50-50 to boardslide on an urban elbow rail. Plainly put, this is one of the best video parts we've ever seen from Desiree, so that should be more than enough reason to check it out.

After a diagonal downpour of rain, Thursday turned into a weather day… pushing back our last day of Ms Superpark presented by Gatorade at Squaw Valley. Thankfully our luck turned around with nothing but sunshine on Friday. Some of the riders had already left, not planning on needing the extra day, but the ones who stuck around definitely made the most out of the last day on hill.
With better conditions and visibility more of the ladies were inclined to hit the gap over the stairset that had been built on Wednesday. Desiree Melancon, Bryn Valaika, and Erin Comstock all had some good looking methods over the gap. Kelly Underwood and Desiree had a double line with Kelly getting a solid front board on the down rail while Desiree aired over her. Then Erin Comstock, Hana Beaman, and Colleen Quigley pulled off a triple line with Colleen airing over Erin and Hana while they were on the stair set.
While all that was going on over at the rail section, a few of the ladies took to the jump line. Iris Lazzareschi happened to make an appearance on this final day and looked like she had been sessioning the park all week, throwing front 5’s and 7’s. Erin Comstock had her bases covered with fluid switch back 1’s and front 3’s and 5’s. Isabel Derungs and Sarka Pancochova also threw some back 7’s into the mix.
Considering the interesting snow year and variable conditions throughout the week the ladies of Ms. Superpark definitely made the most out of what was put in front of them. Getting creative with the features by hitting them in ways they weren’t meant to be hit and many of the girls riding from early morning into sunset sessions. One girl however really proved herself over the past week earning herself the Ms. Superpark Standout and Gatorade “Driven From Within” award. Kjersti Buaas sessioned all the sections of the park, many times guinea pigging the features, consistently rode well, and stayed on hill from first to last chair… making her the obvious choice for the award selected by the SNOWBOARDER Magazine staff.
Big thanks to Gatorade, Squaw Valley, Jess Richitelli, Mike Bettera and the SPT park crew, and all the ladies for putting in a solid four days of riding. Until next year, and stay tuned for coverage from Men’s Superpark coming to you next week.

After getting kicked off the hill early Monday due to an approaching lightning storm the ladies of Ms. Superpark presented by Gatorade at Squaw Valley were hungry to get things going on Tuesday. The morning looked a little ominous with dark clouds hanging over the mountain, but they cleared up mid morning making way for a very productive day on hill.
With a day under their belt the ladies had a better feel for the park, making use of all the features SPT had put in front of them. There was a long session over on the rail/wallride section. Some of the standouts included Kelly Underwood with lines through the whole setup, Madison Blackley, Mary Rand, Danyale Patterson, Marie Hucal with a good looking handplant, Raelynd Tarnove with a lipside 270 out on the down bar, Alexa McCarty, and Ruki Furihata. One of the highlights on the butter pad at the bottom of the park was Sina Candrian with a front 1 on to a cab 5 off.
Towards the end of the day some of the girls got creative on the first jump, transferring off the lip to the transition on the side. The standouts included Kjersti Buaas with a front 3 stale transfer and Desiree with a front 1 transfer, and Elena Hight also threw a good looking method into the mix.
Around 5:30 we picked a select few ladies who we thought were riding well on the jumps to stick around for a sunset session on the jump line. According to Spencer O’Brien who has been riding really well the past few days, “The highlight of today was probably the night shoot, we had a good crew of girls riding. Stefi Luxton, who is an am and an awesome little rider, did her first front 7 which was sick, and Kimmy Fasani’s cork 7’s were awesome.” At about 7:30 we called it due to the lack of light and tired legs. It was an incredibly productive second day of Ms. Superpark. We'll see what else is in store for the next two days at Squaw Valley.
