SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Best of Test Snowboard Review isn’t about finding the top-performing snowboard as chosen by an exclusive jury on limited terrain in predictable conditions during a short time period. Rather, we arrive at our Best of Test results after traveling far and wide to the largest on-snow retailer demos in the nation.
On-snow demos are the perfect venue for compiling pertinent information, as shop staffers from across the country have the chance to ride next year’s boards like they stole ’em before they try to get you to buy ’em. Hardpack, pow, moguls, boxes, banks, cliffs, corduroy, quarterpipes, halfpipes, steeps, cat tracks, glades, loose granular—you name it, they rode it. Mammoth Mountain, CA, Stratton, VT, Mission Ridge, WA, Boyne Mountain, MI, Snowbasin, UT, and Keystone, CO played host to our on-hill investigation as we queried more than a hundred riders to find their picks from literally thousands of demoed models, and when the final votes were in, we whittled it down to the top three men’s and the number-one women’s ride.
