Mt. Bachelor, Oregon is the perfect venue for the fifteenth installment of SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s most coveted event. I say this because, though the features piled up by our renowned pushers is unbelievable, you must ride down “Supernatural Park” to get to Superpark. Bachelor’s top terrain, consisting of wind lips, tree bonks, gaps, (namely, the “Devun Gap,” named for famed backcountry badass Devun Walsh who is in attendance this year) and more are the perfect warm up for riders and industry liaisons before the looming jumps, rails, and hips overtake the landscape.

Our build teams this year are unreal. Jason George of Copper, Eric Rosenwald of Boreal and Corey Tredkin of Killington consist of one team, Cory McDonald, Pat Malendoski, and James Jackson comprise the High Cascade crew, Joel Rerko heads up the Seven Springs squad, and Hames Ellerbe leads the Bachelor bunch. And the features that these diligent and talented dudes have created are remarkable. Massive hips, huge jumps, perfectly placed rail features, rollers, quarters, and more make up what may be the biggest and safest Superpark yet.

I mainly watched the Seven Springs hip session today, and the standouts included Aaron Robinson, Jordan Phillips, Kyle Lopiccolo, Parker Duke, Curtis Woodman, Ben Rice, Trevor Jacob, and more. But hands-down the most impressive trick thrown down all day on it was Scotty Vine’s one-foot frontside three on the beast. Peep the video for further proof.

The High Cascade jump went off as well, sessioned solely by Chelone Miller who back rodeo, Cab five, and Cab ten’d the giant. Bode Merrill was witnessed shutting down the hip that is fed into by the jump, but again, the video will do more justice that my words when describing all the action that went down on Day One. It was a formidable kick-off to the biggest event of the year. Stay tuned to snowboardermag.com for daily updates, photo galleries, and videos from Superpark 15.

SNOWBOARDER would like to thank our sponsors, Gatorade and Mt. Bachelor, Oregon for their continued support of Superpark and their dedication to the progression of snowboarding.

  • Suck it Bachelor

It is really lame that Mt Bachelor is getting all this credit just because they are hosting superpark. Anyone that rides Bachelor on a daily basis can tell you just how hard that Hames and his park tards blow it. Park crew does absolutely nothing, they just ride all day, and maybe….. just maaaaybe, every once in a while they will slip a lip…. They can’t set a rail without a massive kicky skier lip, and the cat drivers can’t seem to make a decent jump that is bigger than 20 feet… They are all about making jumps you can blow your knees out on even if you land in the “sweet spot” or just jumps you can’t clear at all. Not to mention that it took them till mid april to build their slopestyle jumpline (Bachelor’s “signature jumpline”), which was actually great…. except they bulldozed it less than a week later to build the Big Wave Challenge course. What is the Big Wave Challenge you ask? It’s a boardercross course that they made in order to see how surfer-like people could make turns…. lame. And allllll of that wouldn’t be so bad if they would just listen when people try to ask them to fix things that are sketchy. They just blow us off and say the features are fine. Nothing against superpark or your decision to have it here, I just don’t want people to get the wrong idea about Bachelor parks with their logo slapped on all these features.

….oh man..I’m blowing it. Looks sick.

  • really weak

Enough snow, cat hours, and man power, hellen keller could have built that lame shit. Hmm. Whose gonna build it next year? Maybe northstar, bear, and aspen?

Scott Vine is a durty one footed Japanese woman!

my friends asked me if i wrote the aforementioned response to “Suck It Mt. Bachelor,” the answer is no. bottom line, if your situation/location bothers you to the point where you become delusional, you need to move on and re evaluate your new location. i know who wrote this and they are a coward who is bummed they won’t ever be recognized for their talent. sucks to be them, i wish they truly realized how rad the central oregon life is.

  • cvezie

I agree with Pete and Pete for “Suck it bachelor”, I mean really? We’ve had 90% pow this year so I say learn how to carve, slash, or even turn with out a fricking rail in your way ya kook or maybe just learn how to snowboard!, we have one of the best mountains in the world for its natural terrain and your bitching about the park, I say move to Breck Kook

  • shasta migrant

I’d have to agree with the pete’s and cvezie.. that bagging on the mountain and crew is so lame it is ridiculous. I mainly use Mt. shasta since it is right in the back yard but gladly drive to Bachelor for the huge and great riding up there.. 3600 acres of all good snow and can’t get why many people still complain like brats. for sure those folks need to move on to their ultimate riding spot and leave it to us who have big smiles for big smiles are best. I’m inspired to travel up friday to check it out from the lift and go skiing on the rest. bachelor has had a great year as did my home hill .. bachelor in spring rocks never forget it!

  • I ride Bachelor

You know, I wouldn’t have been quite as harsh about it…. but “Suck it Bachelor” pretty much nailed it…. Don’t get me wrong I love freeriding at Bachy when it snows, and it has been a great year for that. But Bachelor’s parks have been going downhill in recent years.
