Superpark Showdown 2011 Winner: Keep The Change

August 9

//

The final battle in the Superpark® 15 Video Showdown presented by Gatorade was nothing short of a nail biter. Early on Eastern Boarder and Colton Feldman’s Keep The Change pulled ahead with a demanding lead. A surprising feat when the competition is the illustrious Volcom with Jake Price behind the camera. Jake must have been planning a sneak attack because on the final day of the showdown, Volcom rallied their troops and pulled ahead, making the last moments of the Showdown very interesting. At the wire Facebook exploded with Showdown propaganda. Volcom encouraged their 1,443,350 followers to vote while Keep The Change had homies blasting the word out. In the end Volcom’s Shawn Farmer coated visuals were trumped by the video with some of the most riding in a single edit of the Showdown. With a total of 3,674 “likers” clicking in, Keep The Change came away on top by a mere 18 votes… Volcom with 1,828 likes and Keep The Change with 1,846. So congratulations to Colton Feldman, he does in fact get to “keep the change” on this one, walking away with $5,000.

    snowboarding’s dying (dead?)
I’ve been in the game for almost 20 years and it’s slowly becoming more and more boring to watch
    where did the style go?
where are the guys with balls going big?
perfect example is the hip, they’re barely taking off

just wanted to say congrats to the KTC dudes it is a well deserved win. That edit was fucking boss i watched it like 40 times. And the Volcom edit SUCKED A CAMELS ASS. SO EAT DA DIRT ALL YOU VOLCOM VOTING FUCKS SO MUCH FOR THAT FREE VOLCOM BOARD. Bet you wouldnt want it so bad if you knew it was a fucking elan hahahah

  • slappy

elan factory makes the best boards. glad these guys won, they can put that money to good use.

  • Mt. Bachelor King

Congrats to ‘Keep the Change’, good honest work and artistic talent is why you bet the ‘business bribers’. Maybe they should go into politics.

  • benny

I thought Nidecker made Volcom boards. Anyway if this wasn’t a Facebook contest Sam Tuor would’ve won and should’ve won. KTC wasn’t bad but there were at least three videos that were better in my opinion. It just goes to show that a lot of people who voted don’t know shit about snowboarding and probably didn’t even watch the videos.

  • ugh

youre an idiot. everyone who voted watched the videos and ktc was clearly the best and made by the passionate underdog

  • BIG MARKEEF

    KEEP THE CHANGE FOR PRESIDENT!

  • population density

it’s calle population density folks… and when a contest is decided by Facebook votes, east coast has more voters. (period)

  • Z-MAN

KTC The clear winner. Music and Vid superba. Glad to see the sponser in the shots along with actual boarding. Maybe Volcom should have showed them taking a shit too! Who wants to look at them ugly fuckers anyway!! NH rocks!!!

  • stinkerbell

Watched both and clearly ktc was the more superior video. Not to take anything away from Vol, great job too!

  • Ugh, ugh!

Yeah I’m sure the kid who’s friend knows a kid who knows another kid who knows one of the kid’s from KTC watched the videos and so did his grandma who lives in Kentucky because she really enjoys snowboarding. You’re right “ugh” I’m sure everyone who voted is really into snowboarding and watched all of the videos. Population density is right on the money. If NH rocks stay there and ride icy parks, we don’t need any more high strung east coast kooks out west. Live free and die there!

  • The Catfish

I fail to see how having a contest based upon voting via. Facebook is an acceptable argument as to why someone should have won a contest. How does it give someone a better edge then someone else?

  • jeebus

The Catfish- because KTC started a fan page for their video and lobbied and posted about getting votes all day. Sam Tuor doesn’t even have a facebook page of his own let alone a fan page. If i were to post on facebook that I need votes so I could win 5000 dollars you can bet that all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, friends from school, friends from work, etc. would all vote for me because they would want me to win 5000 dollars despite the fact that none of them know anything about or give a shit about snowboarding. I don’t really know how you fail to understand that, it’s pretty simple dude… By the way- I really liked the KTC edit and I think those kids are sick at editing and filming and they had a ton of awesome riding. I’m not here to talk shit about KTC or any of the other edits but it’s pretty apparent to me that KTC won because of the voting system, not because they had the best edit. They had tons of riders in the edit, who all turned around and lobbied on facebook, and they all got all of their friends and family and whoever the hell else to vote for them so they ended up with tons of votes. KTC, Volcom, you guys killed it- Snowboardermag- please bury this contest format so deep that we all forget it ever existed…

Everyone complaining about the facebook format… think about it for a minute? All anyone is doing is sharing a link, which you can do no matter the format of the vote. Folks did the same thing last year by setting up events and special pages, just to send people to this page… So the fact that the voting is done by a tally of facebook “likes” makes absolutely no difference. The voting has to be done somehow, and no matter how, it will always be shared via facebook in hopes of gaining more votes.

  • shnozberry

    ^exactly. people have no brains

  • nwdiehard

so my uncle that lives in austin, texas and has never seen the snow will always have a say in who wins the superpark showdown? that’s fuckin retarded. last years format was gay too. how about have real professional editors from established film companies pick the winner? of course snowboardermag can get ahold of them. how about have a group of pro riders that weren’t in attendance at superpark pick the winner like the riders poll? as long as you are able to rally votes with facebook this contest will never determine the best edit so until they change the format the winner means jack shit to me. if you really think that KTC was the best edit you are either in the edit, edited the edit, or you are friends with kids in the edit or the editors…

  • jeebus

jdub- you can’t share a link if the voting isn’t open to the public so saying that you can share a link no matter what the format of the vote is 100% wrong. there’s a thousand ways to determine the winner of the contest that don’t involve aunt susie from south carolina voting or involve facebook at all. you actually just confirmed that it is for sure a facebook popularity contest because kids like sam tuor don’t have facebook and don’t go on the internet every day. he isn’t going to share links or make events or special pages so he’s going to have a pretty rough time getting votes with this facebook format. the fact that voting is done by facebook makes all the difference. according to you the best edit doesn’t win, the best online campaign wins. next year the staff at snowboardermag should pick a winner and then there should be a separate category called “facebook choice.”

  • FilmerD

Volcom was really good, but KTC deserved the win. It will go to a good cause. Get some DVDs pressed with that money!

  • bill

yeah keep the change!!!! east coasters killing it!

check it: back ten at the end was at super pahk http://vimeo.com/27871289

  • no

    @jeebus

Well, Sam Tuor not having a facebook page is probably the funniest thing on here. Volcom encouraged their “likers” on facebook to vote (1,443,350 of them, see above) as did keep the change. Only thing is, keep the change has 798 followers. Keep the change had a well deserved win, congrats.

Oh, and by the way, you all are stupid, Volcom boards are pressed at the Signal factory.
