Welcome to the Finals of the Superpark Sunday showdown. After three months of cliques clicking away to help their favorite filmers advance it has all come down to just two production companies. Though Nuulife and Helgasons.com are completely different in terms of aesthetic and story they do have one thing in common. Either one will need to fill out a w-8 if they win because that is what you do if you are a foreigner getting paid in US dollars. That’s right. We don’t know how they say it in Canadian or Icelandese but here in the US of A we say “Esa es una gran cantidad de dinero.” As of 11:59 pm on August 28th $5,000 American amounts to 5,283.90 in cdn or 641,900 Icelandic Krona compliments of Gatorade. That amounts to a metric tonne of Tim Hortons and enough Bjork and Sugarcubes cd’s to make your emo ears bleed. This final Showdown will conclude at midnight Friday 9/3/10 at which time we will notify the victors of their Superpark Sunday Showdown triumph.

In their opening round appearance against Variety Pack Nuulife proved that it doesn’t always have to be about the action. Apparently there is a place in the Showdown for narrative. Amen to that. Then in their bout against Videograss these underdogs from above our border sent Videograss back to the editing bay with their cheeky tails between their legs thus ending Oli Gagnon, Lance Hacker and Java Fernandes’ meteoric rise to Superpark fame. Finally Nuulife ended the vagabond journey of Video Gypsy in the semi-finals.
There are a few things Canadians do well: Hockey, binge drinking, donning denim, cooking bacon, road tripping with their shirts off, and snowboarding. The latter of that list is especially relevant to the Nuu Life crew. Making the trek to Mammoth all the way from our neighbor to the north, Nuu Life rolled into Superpark and documented their week down to the minute. Featuring riders like Jody Wachniak, Dustin Craven, Andrew Geeves, Rusty Ockenden, Kevin Griffin, Adam Chuntz, Eric Willett, Mark McMorris, Torgir Bergeim, Robby Balharry, Kael Hill, Eman Anderson, Matt Belzile and many more, Nuu Life gives you a glimpse into these carving Canucks week in Mono County; that is, until they end up in a seaside pokey. But hey, when you leave a gathering that has no rules, adjusting to life on the outside can be a tough task.

Every contender that has gotten into the ring with Helgasons.com has been TKO’d ASAP. The second round trouncing of Play Big Productions was a repeat of their first faceoff against 4 Reel, both victories garnering over 80% of the ballots cast. It wasn’t until the semi-finals against the masterminds behind Think Thank that these Icelanders felt the heat. Unfortunately, Think Thank encountered a brain freeze and couldn’t usurp this edit from a pseudo Scandinavian state.
Johannes Brenning might not have his name on the URL but he has left his mark all over Helgasons.com. As the primary filmer for Eiki and Halldór, Johannnes spent last season documenting their every antic. That journey brought him to Superpark 14 alongside Halldór. This video is one of the most anticipated Superpark Sunday offerings of the entire Showdown because of not just the hype around Halldór but also because they were ambitious enough to actually release a teaser for this edit two months ago! So sit back, better make it full screen by clicking the up left and down right arrows below and turn up the volume. Oh and the baja pullovers are DC’s tribute to Cinco Dé Mayo as are the cerveza’s. And the throwing up in the trees? That’s how you know it is May 6th! Or Halldor is pregnant. Any one who has seen him ride has borne witness to the birth of a new breed of freestyle snowboarding.

The Superpark Sunday Showdown is presented by Gatorade. This interactive contest is a weekly video faceoff where two Superpark edits go head to head with the victor being decided by you, the snowboardermag.com viewer. The entry that receives the most votes each week advances to the next round. All told, there are 16 film companies in contention, each with hopes of advancing all the way to the end of the brackets where they will receive the $5,000 grand prize courtesy of Gatorade.
