Superpark Showdown: Video Gypsy VS NuuLife

Welcome to Week 11 of the Superpark Sunday showdown, where we have finally arrived at the semifinal round. Remember to return everyday to vote for your favorite edits in order to help them earn 5 g’s!

Week 11 is now upon us and we have two more Superpark Sunday Showdown contenders, with Video Gypsy going head-to-head against NuuLife Cinema. Vote for your favorite video and help them advance to the next round and potentially win $5,000 compliments of Gatorade. Voting is allowed each day, so check back to make sure your favorite is winning. Voting will end 8/24/10 at midnight.

Video Gypsy
Video Gypsy reamed Snowboard Realms to take the first Superpark Sunday match all the way back in early June. Then they faced off again Rubbish Heap in the round of eight and emerged victorious, despite Flow Team Manager Andrew Mutty visiting every Apple store in Orange County in an effort to increase the clicks in Rubbish Heap’s favor.

If you’ve never heard of Buddy Back 7 or Johnny Frontflip, then you’re not alone. SNOWBOARDER checked the Superpark credentialed riders list and couldn’t find them there either. It wasn’t until we Googled said names that we realized that Nick Khater, the auteur behind Video Gypsy, pulled an Ellis Island and just used whatever titles he felt like to denote the riders. This means that you’ll have to do some sleuthing to figure out that Buddy Back 7 at 1:02 is actually Marc Swoboda or Johnny Frontflip at 1:59 is actually Ted Borland. While you’re sleuthing, you might want to look up Shakira’s video for the song “Gypsy” where her pouty lips are put to good use as she bares her navel while baring her harmonica playing soul!

NuuLife Cinema
In their opening round appearance against Variety Pack, Nuulife proved that it doesn’t always have to be about the action. Apparently there is a place in the Showdown for narrative. Amen to that. Then, in their bout against Videograss, these underdogs from above the border sent Videograss back to the editing bay with their cheeky tails between their legs, thus ending Oli Gagnon, Lance Hakker and Java Fernandez’s meteoric rise to Superpark fame.

There are a few things Canadians do well: hockey, binge drinking, donning denim, cooking bacon, road tripping with their shirts off, and snowboarding. The latter of that list is especially relevant to the NuuLife crew. Making the trek to Mammoth all the way from our neighbor to the north, NuuLife rolled into Superpark and documented their week down to the minute. Featuring riders like Jody Wachniak, Dustin Craven, Andrew Geeves, Rusty Ockenden, Kevin Griffin, Adam Chuntz, Eric Willett, Mark McMorris, Torgir Bergeim, Robby Balharry, Kael Hill, Eman Anderson, Matt Belzile and many more, NuuLife gives you a glimpse into these carving Canucks’ week in Mono County; that is, until they end up in a seaside pokey. But hey, when you leave a gathering that has no rules, adjusting to life on the outside can be a tough task.

The Superpark Sunday Showdown is presented by Gatorade. This interactive contest is a weekly video faceoff where two Superpark edits go head to head with the victor being decided by you, the snowboardermag.com viewer. The entry that receives the most votes each week advances to the next round. All told, there are 16 film companies in contention, each with hopes of advancing all the way to the end of the brackets where they will receive the $5,000 grand prize courtesy of Gatorade.
