WhiteNoise: Marie-France Roy
December 5

Québecois killer Marie-France Roy cut her teeth on the cold, hard streets of Canada where she learned that if she coupled her insane work ethic with her natural abilities, she would become one of the best female snowboarders in history. Luckily for us, she capitalized on her opportunity and MFR changed the game for any girl out there looking to dominate in more than one category. With gender-blurring segments in the Rome movies and a small stint with Absinthe, lapping alongside her close friend Annie Boulanger, Marie-France proved that she can kill it whether strapped in atop a closeout or a cliff. Needless to say, music is a big part of MFR’s motivation so we hit her up and asked her which tunes she’s listening to before, during, and after riding. Read up below.

First Tracks (music that wakes you up):
Depends on the day. If it’s a mellow Sunday morning:
If were driving to the hill though, it’s good to get more pumped up with anything between Rise Against, or the worst Top 40, or old gay French songs that we love singing out loud. There’s a good variety of sounds I would say.
Pow Ballad (favorite song to ride pow to):
It could be anything depending on the mood.

Jib Song (favorite song to jib to):
It’s gotta be a be somewhat more gangsta rap style, even though I don’t know much about the rappers. But, I like it once in a while. G-Baby gives me the beats.
Rock Ride (what song pumps you up the most during a session):
Usually it will be a song from a snowboard or surf movie that just came out. Last year, I really liked the song “Percussion Gun” from White Rabbits in Innersection. I still get so pumped on songs from old snowboard movies like Simple Pleasures or any vids around that time.
Cool Down (what’s your mellow post riding song):
It could be Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, or some good ol’ Ace of Base!
Pre Aprés (what do you listen to before you go out at night):
I’ve got no problem with the worst mainstream dance music once in a while before going out with the gals, but I also like folk music or whatever fits with the occasion.

What is your favorite video part song of all time?
So hard to say…Maybe Kids of the Black Hole, Adolescents, or Le Tigre “Deceptacon”.
What video part song that you’ve used have you been most stoked on?
I think it’d be “My Right”, by Screeching Weasel. Thanks for that one, Cavan.
If you could be one rock star who would it be?
Maybe Kurt Cobain or Zack de La Rocha. I don’t know, but I feel like they were both passionate about what they were singing about and had interesting stuff to say.
Simply Guilty Pleasures (what are you ashamed to admit you actually like):
I do like Lady Gaga’s creativity.
Turn It Down (music you can’t stand):
Techno lounge music that has the same exact beat for like ten minutes straight.
Turn It Off (worst song ever):
No offense but anyone pulling into the parking lot in a Civic with a race pipe and neon lights bumping Limp Bizkit super loud thinking they look cool should turn it off, please. Yes, Bizkit.
