With two US Olympic Snowboard Halfpipe Team qualifying events now complete and one rider already named to the squad, who will represent the US of A come February in Vancouver? Several contenders have emerged.
Unlike most other nations, America is unique in that we choose our Olympic snowboarders based exclusively upon an individuals best two finishes within the five event Grand Prix Olympic qualifying series. After the first of two Mammoth competitions, and the season opener in Copper a month ago, Kelly Clark is the only rider guaranteed a spot on the 2010 USA Olympic Snowboard Team. After all, two wins is as good as it can get in this format.
Here is how the rest of the men and women are looking as we head into the third qualifying event.
It should be noted that the following tally includes international athletes who are unable to make our team regardless of how much they wish they could. Not as a reflection of their talent, though that would appear to be the case, but rather because of the simple fact that they are un-American. Not politically speaking of course. Well, actually Dustin Craven has socialist tendencies so technically he would be un-American.
