On Sunday January 22nd, 2012 Snowboarder Magazine returned to the Socal roots of the terrain park revolution for the first stop of the 2012 Superpass Superpark Qualifying Series. Over thirty of Mountain High, California’s finest park contenders fought it out on the three-jump course for three runs to determine which rider had the chops to earn a coveted invite to Superpark 16. Despite slushy takeoffs and gusty skies several technical spins were achieved and overall the field proved that there is more to the Socal snowboard scene than park jibbing.

Ryan Pluche took his smooth style and laid out tail grab back flips all the way to the podium finishing the day in third place. Mammoth local Michael Gray missed out on the fresh snow the Sierra’s received this week but he made up for it at Mtn High with a rodeo flip on his second run and a cab seven on his third to earn second place. Taking home the win and a hearty prize package from Capita, Union, High Cascade and Spy as well as an invite to the big show was local standout Brandon Davis who linked up a backside rodeo five with a cab nine to easily ascend to the top spot on the podium.
