Battle Wounds - An Enormous Lump, Pain Killers, and Some Awesome Pictures
03/12/04 - By Andrea S. from Dallas, TX

I couldn't resist as I stumbled upon my pictures from last year's hospital visit. I remember it vividly every 10 minutes as I still receive shooting pains up my entire arm as a result of the abnormally healed ligaments. Anyway, I knew the rail looked kind of shady but I couldn't resist, it was just my fourth day into the season and I was so anxious to pound it, so anxious that I caught the back edge of my board coming off a six-foot rainbow rail, threw my hands back to brace my fall, and bit it. I tried to push myself up, which didn't work, so I chilled for a second, took my gloves off and saw the ENORMOUS LUMP coming out of my left wrist. No way was this lump going to stop me. I managed to get myself up, board down the rest of the hill, go back up again, and go back down (it was 10 a.m. on my fourth day out, no way in hell was I gonna quit). My arm eventually went numb so I decided to just go inside and call someone to drive me to the hospital. The 45-minute drive, and then the two-hour wait gave me enough time to realize how much I screwed up my arm and how much it hurt. I knew it was bad when the doctor called in two nurses with IV's resulting in one HUGE ASS SHOT that hurt worse than actually breaking my arm ... in four places, cleanly across with a few floating pieces. I also received pain medicine after they set it back into place ... my bad, set four pieces back into one place. I wouldn't have traded it for the world, I had the best vacation story by far AND these awesome pictures ... notice the boots are still on.
