Irvine, CA – The inaugural Billabong Junior Pro slopestyle snow event held in Stoneham, Quebec City was a huge success.

“The level of riding and excitement the riders showed contributed to the success of the event,” said Risto Scott, national marketing manager for Billabong Canada. “This event helps to fill a void in the snowboard scene by allowing up and coming snowboarders the opportunity to develop their professional snowboard careers and prepare them to enter the elite world of snowboarding.”

Forty-eight top amateur snowboarders competed under sunny skies to claim the Billabong Junior Pro title, gain a piece of a $10,000 (CDN) prize purse, and get the opportunity to compete in the Billabong World Junior Pro event for a $10,000 (Euro) prize purse.

Craig Beaulieu claimed first place, Reno Belisle took second place and Alex Andre Ferland got third place. Beaulieu and Belisle went on to compete in the Billabong World Junior Pro event that took place at the snowpark of la Toura, in Les Deux Alpes in France March 1-4 where they competed against 36 top snowboarders (age 20 and under) from around the world. Billabong incurred their flights and accommodations as part of their prize package for getting first and second place.

The Billabong Pro Junior was conceptualized to groom snowboarders and prepare them for their professional snowboard careers. Sponsors of the event included VonZipper, Red Bull, Stoneham Resort, McDonalds, Snowboard Canada Magazine and Snowboarder Magazine.

In addition to the prestigious Billabong World Junior Pro title, the “Tristan Picot Memorial” will be a perpetual trophy awarded to the most promising competitor of the event in honor of Tristan’s memory. The winner will receive $2,000 (Euro) and media exposure in the pan European snowboard magazine Method Mag. The "Tristan Picot Memorial Trophy" was created in 2004 in memory of Tristan, a Billabong team snowboarder who lost his life in an avalanche in January 2003.
