SHAUN WHITE OLYMPIAN!

The big news out of Breckenridge is that Shaun White took the win in the second stop of the Chevy grand Prix series, sealing up a spot on the Olympic team. Although the team will not be officially selected until January 21, 2006, Shaun’s two wins are enough to get him a spot. And her earned it today throwing down an insane run with backside 9 to back-to-back 10’s to frontside 9 to a McTwist just for style! It was an insane run! Coming in 2nd was Mason Aguirre who threw down with insane style along with big tricks like corked 5 to back-to-back 7s to a HUGE frontside 1080! And coming in 3rd was young gun, Danny Davis, who at only 17 is on top of his halfpipe game tossing down a lofty frontside air to a backside 5 to a frontside 10 to a Cab 7 to frontside 9. Danny is a serious up and coming pipe rider. Andy Finch was blasting out of the pipe today as he claimed some of the largest airs of the day and the judges rewarded him with 4th. Kevin Pearce took 5th with super stylish spins like his frontside 9 stalefish.

On the women’s side, Gretchen Bleiler locked up her first win, which puts her in a great spot for making the US Olympic Team. She threw down big spins today including her signature crippler 5 on the first hit followed by back to back 5’s and of course stomping the frontside 9. Elena Hight was sitting in first after qualifying but finished the day in 2nd, after throwing down a huge method to frontside 9 to frontside 7 to Cab 7. Elena was one of the only girls throwing out the back-to-back 7s. Long time shredder, Tricia Byrnes rode well placing 3rd. Hanna Teter, who took first in the first Grand Prix on Dec. 14, was not as clean as she had been and ended up in 5th, although she was throwing down, she just didn’t quite put it all together. Olympic hopeful Kelly Clark didn’t ride today due to an injury she suffered in the warm-up to the finals of the first Grand Prix on Dec. 14. Also, Lindsey Jacobellis did not ride today.
