Ross Powers Snowboard Camp at Mountain Creek

01/30/04 - Press Release

February 11-12th

Ross Powers, who continues to set the standards for snowboarding, will be at Mountain Creek February 11th-12th to coach a 2-day camp with fellow legends Kelly Clark and Andy Finch. Camp registration includes two days of coaching, lunches, photo ops with pro coaches, and prizes to best camp riders.

At just 24 years old, 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist Ross Powers has established himself as the most successful snowboarder in history. Considered snowboarding's first child prodigy, he has won every major competition in the world, some more than once. Ross competed in his first US Open at the age of nine, won the bronze medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, scored six World Cup victories, three Grand Prix wins, the World Cup halfpipe title and the US Open title. Ross has also won a gold metal at both the NBC Gravity Games and TNT Goodwill Games, all of the Vans Triple Crown events, and took a silver and bronze at the ESPN X Games in halfpipe, plus held the World Overall and Halfpipe titles. A native of South Londonderry, Vermont he started the non-profit Ross Powers Foundation to benefit Vermont athletes in financial need.

During the 2002 season, Kelly Clark, from Mount Snow Vermont, won every major competition on the national circuit including the first-ever Olympic gold medal for US women's snowboarding. Clark is a role model and hosts her own snowboard camp for young riders at her home mountain. Her towering airs and signature smooth McTwist continue to keep Clark at the top of the game.

Joining the coaching staff is also Fresno native Andy Finch, who started out as an SBX racer because his local mountain didn't have a halfpipe. Now a standard in the pipe finals who is known for his fearless style and impressive arsenal of tricks, Finch topped the '04 Grand Prix opener in Park City Utah.

Campers will be side-by-side with these top athletes for fast-paced all-mountain riding, as well as training in the terrain parks and half-pipe from 9am-3pm both days. It's open to intermediate and above level riders ages 10 through 20. Registration is on a first come-first served basis for the first 75 participants.

Sign up and pay at Mountain Creek Guest Services (North or South) or call 973-827-2000 and select 0 for information and registration. The cost is $299 (includes lift tickets) or $249 with Mountain Creek season pass, valid Triple Play or Creek Card.
