Davidoff Cool Water makes its next journey into the world of lifestyle sports by
announcing its partnership with the industry's most aspirational and credible
snowboarding event, The Arctic Challenge. From 7-13 April the World's best will
gather from all corners of the earth, in the stunning new surroundings of
Trysilfjellet, Norway, for one of the only events which is true to the roots of
snowboarding and allows for ultimate freedom of expression and freeriding. This
year, the Davidoff Cool Water Xpression Sessions will add to the freestyle mix by
hosting the Quarterpipe, one of the three main event disciplines.
The Arctic Challenge was established in 1999 as an alternative to rigid sports
philosophy and organisation. Developed by the biggest icon of snowboarding, Terje
Haakonsen, The Arctic Challenge is totally dedicated to riders' control of their
sport and the basic values of snowboarding: Playfulness, progression, freedom and
individual style. It is all about taking snowboarding back to the snowboarders
and back to nature. The Davidoff Cool Water Xpression Sessions is completely
synonymous with this philosophy and aims to encourage individuals to push
themselves to the limits and truly express themselves through the free-nature of
snowboarding.
The event and the Davidoff Cool Water Xpression Sessions will sit as the pinnacle
of the Ticket To Ride (TTR) series, the newest and most innovative snowboarding
tour. TTR comprises nine events of the best International events where riders
must try and secure a golden 'ticket' to The Arctic Challenge and its
disciplines: which includes the Davidoff Cool Water Xpression Sessions, together
with a Slope style and Half pipe contest.
The Davidoff Cool Water Xpression Sessions will be a massive quarterpipe snow
construction: 8 meters high and 25 meters wide. The riders attack the monster at
80 kilometres an hour, flying over 9 meters above the coping and 18 meters above
the ground level. At the last event Finnish rider Heikki Sorsa broke Ingemar
Backman's historic world air record by stumping a solid 9,3 meter air, lets see
if the record can be smashed this year. The 2003 riders on the Davidoff Cool
Water Xpression Sessions will be only the top names of snowboarding, including 16
riders who will have qualified from the TTR series plus 10 wild cards to be
awarded by Terje Haakonsen.
In addition, Davidoff Cool Water Woman will also be hosting a highest air session
for an elite selection of female riders. There'll be a bonus cash prize put up
for the rider who can top the lot (5 meters) on the measuring stick...in 2000
USA's Anne Molin Kongsgaard went higher than many of the guys, so this year they
should watch out for their precious records!
"Davidoff Cool Water is a perfect partner for us, their Xpression Sessions
concept is tailor made for action sports and fits their ethos completely with our
event. The Arctic Challenge is pure and natural and we need partners who
understand this philosophy. With the brand's global position and distribution,
Davidoff Cool Water can bring out the core message of The Arctic Challenge to a
broad audience we could ever dream of", says Henning Andersen, CEO of The Arctic
Challenge.
Davidoff Cool Water, the male fragrance with an image that fits into the
lifestyles of today's youth, will continue its support of the snowboarding and
surfing industry into the future. Past events have already included Chamjam
freesports festival and the coveted Hawaiian Pro/Vans Triple Crow. Keep an eye on
www.davidoff.com/coolwater for future events.
