San Clemente, Calif. (April 5, 2010) – Two years ago SNOWBOARDER Magazine established The Launch as a literal launching pad for the next generation of riders. Today, featuring 50 of the world’s best 13-17 year olds, The Launch is the premier snowboarding event for the sport’s future super stars and it is set to lift-off tomorrow at Keystone Resort in Colorado.
“2010 has seen the first generation of Launch participants fulfill on the promise that inspired this session three years ago,” comments Pat Bridges, Editor, SNOWBOARDER Magazine. “Launch athletes not only achieved victories and overall titles in 2010, they also competed in the Olympics! Sage Kotsenberg, Greg Bretz, Jamie Anderson, Sarka Pancochova and Tyler Flanagan are just a few Launch veterans who are now at the forefront of the competitive snowboarding world.”
There are a host of fresh faces this year hoping to follow in their predecessor’s footsteps are alongside the familiar faces of Sage Kotsenberg, Tyler Flanagan, Kyle Mack and Sebastien Toutant among many other talented young standouts.
The only event of its kind, The Launch is as progressive as the athletes participating in it. “I go back to The Launch every year because you have all the sickest kids riding together in one park,” says Sage Kotsenberg, 2010 Overall Dew Cup Champion. “We just get shots and progress!”
About to embark on its third year, The Launch has become central feature in SNOWBOARDER’s annual event series for the staff and event partners as much as the athletes. “Facilitating the individual growth of just one athlete is rewarding,” says Chris Englesman, Publisher, SNOWBOARDER Magazine. “Knowing that The Launch, has impacted not only the careers of many athletes each year, but also the sport as we know it is something that everyone involved in the event can be proud of.”
