Monday, January, 20th snowboard legend Craig Kelly was killed in an avalanche along with six other skiers, in the Revelstoke area of British Columbia. Kelly's contributions to our sport are innumerable. 36 year-old Kelly was a four-time World Champion and three-time U.S. Open champion, but will be remembered by most as one of the sport's most stylish riders and the first true professional snowboarder. He was also a pioneer of backcountry riding whose knowledge, experience, and approach in that element made him an inspiration to riders all over the world.

A group of 24 skiers were in the path of the slide, which occurred on the Durrand Glacier. The bodies of the seven victims were recovered, but weather systems in the area have slowed evacuation efforts. The remaining 16 skiers spent the night on the mountain and await evacuation. Craig Kelly is survived by his young daughter Olivia, and his partner Savina. Our deepest and most sincere sympathies go out to all who are touched by this tragedy.
