HEAVENLY GETS 2010-11 SKI AND SNOWBOAD SEASON OFF TO A SNOWY START

·        More Terrain and Amenities Set to Open

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. – November 20, 2010 – Behind the strength of the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system and a well-timed winter storm, Heavenly Mountain Resort (www.skiheavenly.com) kicked off the 2010-11 ski and snowboard season on Saturday, November 20, 2010, with the deepest snowpack and finest surface conditions Lake Tahoe has to offer. Heavenly began the season with almost 20 acres of available terrain accessed by the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express Chairlift.

“Thanks to our incredible snowmaking crew and system, Heavenly will open with mid-winter conditions on the terrain we have open,” said Heavenly’s vice-president and general manager, Pete Sonntag. “And now with this huge winter storm, we should get 2010-11 off to an incredible, snowy start.”

Based on its potential, some forecasters are calling this upcoming storm Lake Tahoe’s snowiest pre-Thanksgiving event in the last eight years. Overnight, the storm dropped a foot of fresh snow, making for excellent opening day conditions. With the new snow and unmatched snowmaking capability, Heavenly officials announced that the resort would open Dipper Express Chairlift on Sunday, November 21, 2010, with access to Orion’s and Big Dipper trails. This gives Heavenly 45 acres and nearly three miles of open terrain.

Heavenly will operate for skiing and snowboarding, weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition to the traditional ski trails, Heavenly has the largest early-season terrain park in Tahoe with 13 features and a medium-sized jump. Gondola sightseeing and on-mountain dining are also open. All access to the mountain will be through the Heavenly Village Gondola.

The National Weather Service is calling for the snow to continue through the weekend, leaving as much as four feet of new snow. For all the latest news and information, visit www.skiheavenly.com, or call 1-800-HEAVENLY.
