The Backspace Gallery, August 2004 show will be a solo exhibition of Corey
Smith's work entitled 'Nice Life.' Corey is a Portland based artist; his
artwork has been featured in such in magazines such as Heckler, Art
Prostitute, Transworld snowboarding, Snowboarder, as well as graphics and
imaging for CAPiTA snowboarding. Corey's artistic sensibility is sweet and
tough, childish and graphic, innocent and cynical. His paintings are based
on found clip art as well as his own clip art style line drawings. His work
has been shown in several Portland shows as well as New York and San Diego.
He is currently going to school at the Pacific Northwest College of art
where he studies photography and design, and is a professional snowboarder
riding for CAPiTA, Electric, Holden, 32, Ambiguous, Grenade, Active, Vestal,
and flux. The First Thursday opening is August 5th, from 6PM to Midnight.
Show closes August 29th. Music by DJ Make-out and DJ Teenage. Keg of PBR by
CAPiTA.
