Snowmaking began at Mountain High Sunday night and resort operators plan to continue making snow whenever possible until open.  This is the earliest Mountain High has made snow in its history and it is all due to recent advancements in snowmaking technology.   New automated fan guns and upgraded nozzles allow the resort to fine tune the air/water combination and make snow at higher temperatures than ever before.

Says John McColly, Director of Marketing, “We are making snow and will open as soon as possible.  Could be a day.  Could be a week.  But we never would have been able to make snow this early five years ago.  The improvements we’ve made to our snowmaking system have been great.”

This year Mountain High invested another $500,000 in its snowmaking system.  Two new, fully automatic fan guns costing $20,000 each now sit at the base of East and West.  Another $70,000 was spent on upgrading existing nozzles.  And a whopping $280,000 was invested in a new 3-Stage Turbo Compressor to power the system.  Now Mountain High can operate more guns and make more snow using the same resources.  And the system runs cleaner than ever before.

Mountain High has been the first resort to open in Southern California for the past 12 years and this winter should be no different.  For the latest information on opening day, snow conditions and more, guests are advised to visit mthigh.com.
