Daffodils may be blooming in Vancouver, but in Whistler, the only thing that is growing is the snowbase. This month, it snowed 21 days in a row, and almost 11 feet of snow has fallen, making it the snowiest March on Whistler Blackcomb record.
After a slower start to the winter season, the spring season has quickly become a record-breaker. Average March snowfall at Whistler Blackcomb is 159cm, and this month more than double that amount has fallen. This March is one of the top ten snowiest months since the 1979-1980 season.
"We were craving powder at the beginning of the season, but our wishes came true this month," said Whistler Freeride Team member Mike Douglas. "Nearly every day has been a powder day."
With the longest ski and ride season in North America, Whistler Blackcomb is known to host incredible spring-time riding, skiing and events. All of the recent snowfall will benefit the World Ski and Snowboard festival in April, the ESPN X Games Global Championships in May, and conditions in general until the mountain closes in mid-June.
