After a few days of adverse weather in Mammoth, the skies opened up to nothing but sunshine just in time for the Grand Prix slopestyle finals. While a large amount of the contest field is in Switzerland for the Burton European Open, names like Guldemond, Kotsenburg, and Willett were still in the mix. But because of the absence of many riders, it also opened up the door for other riders to step up to the plate.

Mammoth did things big as always, with 3 different jib sections, leading the riders into a massive 4-jump line. Those who made it through qualifiers were then given a two-run final. The ladies were not phased with the massive jump line with first place winner, Joanna Dzierzawski, throwing multiple frontside and backside 360’s.

On the men’s side of things it was a nail biting battle for the podium between the qualifiers to drop last. Which included Eric Willett, Sage Kotsenberg, Chas Guldemond, and Mark Hoyt. But after a little jumbling around it, a few crashes, a few double corks, and a few 1260’s it was Chas Guldemond who came out on top.

Following Guldemond on the podium by only two points was Sage Kotsenberg taking second, and Mark Hoyt with his first major podium ever. On the girls side, following Joanna Dzierzawski was Indigo Monk, and rounding things out was Karly Shorr.

Guldemond only wins when all the big names are out of it.. and check the trophy 'Mammoth Mountain - March 2012 - halfpipe'..way to go US Grand Prix, weak course compared to Burton Euro Open.
