Boxes For Days: Japan Recap

Photos: Alex Mertz

Lib Tech's Boxes for Days tour made it's yearly stop in Japan at Iizuna Resort in Nagano and it was bananas. Well over 100 riders from all over Japan made the trip to hang out, eat some bananas, wear a Sharpie beard and enjoy a ridiculously fun day involving a lot of boxes. Think Thank'ers Jesse Burtner, Sean Genovese, Chris Beresford, Sean Black, filmer Ross Philips and photog Alex Mertz took a day off from filming for their upcoming flick Mind the Video Man to stoke out the locals and get their box fix as well. It was sunny, it snowed, was sunny, was a blizzard and was sunny again. Tons of prizes were handed out from Lib Tech, Gnu, Arnette, Coal and Poler and everyone left with big smiles and sore hands from so many high-5's.

Special thanks to Iizuna Resort park crew, Kenji Kato and the Garage 902 crew for making this event possible. Arigato gozaimasu and see you next year!

New Year’s High Resoultion: Mike Yoshida’s Top 10 Photos

Photos & Captions: Mike Yoshida

To bring in the New Year and celebrate the past we are bringing you "New Year's High Resolution" photo galleries from SNOWBOARDER Magazine's senior photographers and staff of their top 10 photos from the 2010-2011 season. The next "Top 10" gallery comes from the most recent addition to the SNOWBOARDER Magazine staff, associate photo editor, Mike Yoshida. During the summer months when not out in the field shooting some of the top pro snowboarders, Yosh is in the SNOWBOARDER offices shooting some of the top product for the magazine. Here is what he has to say about last season:

"People always ask me throughout the entire season 'Have you been having a good year?' and I usually reply with 'I don't know'. The reason why I never have a clear definitive answer is because, after all is said and done, what really makes it good? Is it the experience of traveling somewhere new? Or is it how many covers you bagged? Or is it your favorite photo you ever took, that never made it to print? Or is it simply doing what you love for a living? I guess for me, it's all of the above, and so I've answered my own question, 'yes, it's been good, and I can't wait for more!' - Mike Yoshida
