SNOWBOARDER Magazine's Superpark 17 presented by Gatorade started with a bang yesterday at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon. Almost 400 of the best snowboarders in the world stacked the drop ins to features built by Seven Springs, PA; Loon Mountain, NH; Woodward (Boreal and Copper); and Mt. Bachelor. Riders got comfortable in the park quick and a heavy session on the Seven Springs channel hip ended the day. Friday May 11 was arguably one of the craziest days of snowboarding ever. Snowboarder Magazine's Superpark 16 presented by Gatorade saw an insane level of progression go down, from a backside triple cork from Sebastian Toutant as well as a frontside triple cork from Mark Hoyt, to Cody Rosenthal's bs 360 double methods, Josh Dirksen's banked slalom runs, to even certain riders literally trying to burn the park down, day 5 had it all! In 2012, Seven Springs packed up their rakes and shovels and made the trek to Mt. Bachelor, setting up shop and building a behemoth of a jump for the Superpark riders.

JP Walker brought together a group of snowboarding’s most talented riders for the day-long Handplant Holiday at Bear Mountain. World class planters were treated to a set up unlike anything seen before, created by the innovative park crew at Bear. The exclusive set up, unique team aspect, and jam format, combined with the relaxed and friendly vibe, gave the riders the opportunity to concentrate on their handplant progression as they went for tricks from the hard to undoable lists. Featuring JP Walker, Jeremy Jones, Simon Chamberlain, Scott Stevens, Marko Grilic, Chris Grenier, Cody Rosenthal, Tim Eddy, Ben Bilocq and special guests Dave Downing and Dale Rehberg.

We've said it before and we'll say it again, Christy Prior is a bossy lady. This chick has a jump repertoire that matches her bag of tricks on rails and she shows no signs of slowing down. Hang out on closing day at Squaw with Christy, Kumara Kelley, and Nick Poohachoff.

He's a constant mover and not one to be in any one place for any extend time. His travels will take him to SNOWBOARDER Mag's Superpark this coming week with a crew of Midwest riders as they embark on Bend, OR and Mt Bachelor.

Alex Tank, Benny Urban, Toni Kerkela, Dominik Wagner, Kas Lemmens, and more of Europe's jib-talented riders gathered at the fourth Head Jib Factory in Germany. The set up was super creative, including tubes, jib-able lockers, and a wall with down rail transfers on each side. The crew of riders shredded their faces off. Enjoy this video of what went down.

The variety of terrain that the women of P.S. shred, be it pillow lines, cliff drops, or street rails, yields a plethora of awesome outcomes when tricks are stomped, but on the flipside, also leads to many awkward and gnarly crashed. Hana Beaman, Robin Van Gyn, Leanne Pelosi, and friends have compiled this crash reel of some of the best bails of the 2012/13 season.

Mark Ass and Lucas Magoon made the trip up to Mammoth Mountain for Danny Kass' Grenade Games 9. This one is a must see with riders like Johnny Lazz, Scott Blum, Tyler Lynch and even Little Jon and quite possibly one of the worst scorps we've ever seen. Check it!

In episode 9 of Marko Grilc's "Grilosodes", Marko heads to California, stopping to skate in Los Angeles and then heading to Mammoth for some end of the season park laps with Spencer O'Brien and friends. Then, he heads to Tahoe for some spring runs at Northstar with Mathias Weissenbacher and Clemens Schattschneider. Wherever Marko is shredding, one thing is for sure, he makes it look like a damn good time.

Dave Sand (owner and operator) of The Tune shop in Banff, Alberta, Canada has been making splitboards a long time. Thirteen years long to be exact and his first prototypes from the late 90’s are still holding up. Recently, he has started making them for customers. However, his craft has elevated his boards to another level and now offers something I’ve only seen him do. Dave can also fully rebase your board with a brand new sintered 7000 base, allowing a once retired board to make a full comeback and shred again. “You can now take apart that old snowboard bench because we can fix it,” said Dave during a short interview. The boards of the past that we loved to ride can be new again. Even the board we towed behind our buddies car can be fixed and/or split if you wanted. Whether it’s to split or just re-condition, it’s all quite possible now.
I’ve known about Dave and The Tune Shop for many years. I used to take my old Boarder Cross boards there to have him texture them in the late 90’s. But, because I was getting new boards with fresh bases more often, I hadn’t been back since then. When The Tune Shop approached me with the idea of splitting one of my favorite powder sticks, I jumped at the opportunity! The reason I think splitboarding has become so popular is because of its natural progression and as snowboarding matures and becomes more intellectual, people will seek out new ideas and ways to broaden their snowboard horizons. Nothing against park jumps and rails but you can only hit so many before you crave a different substance. But, the quest for powder can get expensive and limited snowmobile, helicopter, and snow cat budgets wont stop a true mountain/powder enthusiast from figuring out how to get their fix.
The truth is, as we grow older as a sport, it becomes less about quantity and more about quality, and working for your turns becomes more of a pleasure than an inconvenience. As I hike more every year, I find new places and terrain I never knew existed and these places are thirty minutes from my front door. Had I only known this kind of terrain was so accessible I would have been riding it much sooner. And now that I’m taking that time on a splitboard, I’m opening up an entire world of new terrain possibilities. I now ride on the Jones Snowboard Team who make incredible split boards for me, but this was my one last project before moving forward. I enjoyed it immensely.
